5 Vegas Gold Maduro Belicoso Cigar Review

This 6×54 torpedo shaped stick features a very dark almost black thin dry wrapper with minimal veins, tight invisible seams, extremely light pack and peppery wood aroma. First light reveals a very loose draw with good medium bodied smoke output giving slightly sweet and oily earth flavor holding through the long smooth finish. The first third shows horrible construction, with a burn that snakes all over, severe tunelling and hot temps only an inch in. It takes double and triple puffs just to get smoke going, giving a chocolate earth and sweet note with a soft long finish. With it going out at the 1/2 way point needing a complete relight it was done. The whole thing was squishy and hot, no need to try and continue. Thank you to viewer Josh Vance for sending this in for review!

When I saw 5 Vegas I was optimistic..I had some sent to me with a sampler would not spend a dime on them.Dark wrapper=dye I would bet on it.Too many good cheap cigars out there is right.

  • I never had much luck with the Vegas cigars. Only had them when I was a noob. Buying from Thompson and such.

  • Walshy

Well I would say great review as always but the cigar didn’t want to cooperate tonight! I’ve yet to try any 5 Vegas and I think that streak will continue. That blows. Look forward every other night to all of your reviews then you have to deal with a crappy cigar. Better luck next time Bryan. Thank you for chucking it at the end. Always makes me laugh.

  • garlar10

This reminds me of the Carlos Torano Noventa Noir cigar you reviewed a few months back. Looks like another stick to stay away from.

  • Jason Isbaner

I was wondering about this cigar, looks like I won’t be trying this smoke!

  • AngSolo

I’ve had the 5 vegas cask strength and it was good IMO. However I didn’t care for the gold or the gold maduro. Didn’t have these burn issues just weren’t for me.

    • PAG

Agreed about the Cask Strengths. I like them and they’ve performed decently. Not sure about the rest of the line.

      • Rich

The issue with the 5 Vegas Line is that CI has different companies making them. The Placencia’s make the cask strength. They also make a few other blends, The Gold being another one. AJ makes many of the other blends and I suspect the one just reviewed. I too have found the ones AJ makes to be inferior and not worth the money.

    • phaedron

Yeah, I am also a nominal fan of the cask strength– but, as others have noted, this was one of the sticks I got in a bargain bundle when I was new to the pastime. I’ve had a few in the humidor for several years now, and I have certainly enjoyed them as I’ve unearthed them from time to time.

  • lazyboy

Was hoping this would be another cheap stick to throw into that rotation. Oh well.

  • Tommz81

Never had any luck with 5 Vegas.

  • SmokeRings

I’ve smoked a few 5 Vegas High Primings that I received in a sampler and wasn’t impressed.I guess this is another one to steer clear of. It’s a shame about the crappy smoke.
Thanks for the review. Keep up the good work.

  • rockjock

Given the amount of catalog space I see from these guys from certain online retailers I had my doubts as to if any were good.

  • rgmenke

I’ve had good luck with some of the 5 Vegas but not this one. Similar experience to yours…. dog rocket.

  • rgorman

So damn glad I watched this review and read the YouTube comments because I was about to buy some of these!

  • kurngar

not touching these. I have had some bad luck lately with cheap maduros. I have also had some issues with middle of the road maduros. I really appreciate Bryan letting us less experienced smokers in on some of the trade secrets about the maduro wrapper and blends secrets.

  • gtclark

The flavors sound ok – too bad about the construction. Not even fit for a yard-gar…

  • mufdvr6976

nice review, seen these at local b & m and on the reservation glad I passed on these!! thanks!

  • swcleveland

I see nothing has changed this was one of my first cigars and had pretty much the same experience.

  • derek_straus

I had the same bad luck with the fist maduro i got. But i have never seen a strange green hue. I wonder what that was.

  • jpculp57

I don’t waste my time on sticks that do that either. It’s not worth my time because I get so mad that I can’t enjoy the stick even if I get it going again.

  • lostonmonday

I got a ton of Gold Maduros from lotto 10, and only one needed a touchup, but none of em’ were torp’s either. Maybe I’m just lucky?

  • MorganGeo

I have had about 3 or 4 of these before. They are real hit or miss for me. Half burned good and the other had problems that pissed me off. LOL The flavor is somewhat interesting to me but I have found others that interest me more and will keep to those.

  • dbfr181

    Man that’s a bummer!!

  • DavidKIT

The CAO Gold Maduro is one of my favorite, more reasonable sticks. I bought one of these 5 Vegas once, as a comparable, and had the same experience…I don’t think I even made it that far into the stick before giving up.

  • eric.hanson

The only good 5 vegas sticks that I’ve ever had were the Miami and the Gold. I got the Maduro in a sampler and found it to be very similar to what you described in your review in terms of the bad performance, I was unimpressed.

  • geekfish

Bryan thanks for reviewing the stinker. I know to steer clear.

  • USA2ndAmendment

I was excited to see 5 vegas, but this didn’t perform how I thought it would for sure. I wonder if it is a fluke, or if all of this line would perform the same way.

  • Gigalo de Vitolas

It’s a shame because I liked their ‘A’ line, not complex by any means but a solid stick. I was going to give them a try but I’ll pass.

    • JJO

I also enjoyed the Series A for a decent low cost stick, but although the Gold Maduro(in the 6×44 corona, at least) delivered likeable sweet chocolate-y flavors, oozing tar problems turned me off from them.

  • Craig

I’ve smoked almost all of the 5 Vegas line.
The Cask Strength is very good, and for a mild smoke the Gold is a good one too. Never had any construction problems with them…… SO FAR. That was sounding like it may have been interesting if it would have just burned!
    Great review as always Bryan.

  • socks

    That was crappy

  • puffrey

that is what i would call the opposite of a good time. thanks Bryan for saving me a buy

  • rpharmrx

Bryan- Just like you said most admirably: ” Too little time for BAD cigars!” Great review, as always!

  • Jellybean

if i saw this cigar in my local shop i might would have got 1 but now i know to avoid them thanks Bryan those reviews are very helpful

  • stevesatch

That stinks. I have a couple of these (in toro rather than torpedo). I was hoping they were decent.

  • Dirk

I purchased a five pac of these cigars in Robusto.. they were without a doubt the absolute worst cigars I have ever tried to date.. I couldn’t agree with your video more.. terrible construction.. not worth the cost of shipping.. sorry 5 Vegas.. dont bother..

  • smh0095

Too bad about that one, I new it was not going to go well when Bryan described how light the pack was. I guess I am lucky, I really enjoy the 5 vegas cigars, and have never had an issues with them, the new relic is really enjoyable.

  • weimerad

I love this cigar. Good price very underrated. Great with coffee or cola

  • MaxDuo

    What a shame.

Maduros are nice, it sucks that it’s hard to get them to burn well…. but it sounds like they didn’t even try with this one. Definitely makes me not want to spend any money on 5 Vegas in general (esp since you say they’ve always been hit or miss with you). THanks for the review Bryan, I might have thought this looked good and given it a try at some point!

  • Duleigh

I Totally agree with your review, just finishing one up now and it hasn’t been worth the butane it takes to keep it going.

  • David Homoney

The Churchill is quit good, with near perfect burn.
