Chamuco Platinum Belicoso Cigar Review

by Bryan Glynn, May 22, 2013

Chamuco Platinum Belicoso Cigar Review

This 6×54 stick features a dark brown lightly packed wrapper with minimal veins, tight seams, dry fine tooth and very pungent sweet heavy wood aroma, like sawdust. First light reveals a slightly snug draw with good thick medium-full bodied smoke output showing flavors of a bitter dark wood with a long smooth finish. The first third calms down quite a bit to a mild-medium with just a slightly syrupy wood taste and short clean finish, very simple. Hitting the 1/2 way point 30 minutes in, there are absolutely no changes so far. The ash holds on very nicely falling in a solid chunk and construction is still perfect. Ending at 1:10 where it started to get warm and bitter, the last third still remained the same. Thank you very much to viewer Ty Papke for providing this for review!

    Thanks for the review!

This actually sounds awesome. Heavy wood, syrup, sawdust? I’d love to try one of these. Hopefully I can find one somewhere.

    • bond007

I agree that the heavy wood, syrup, and sawdust sound pretty awesome. I am wondering if my local cigar store has this one.

  • TimB

LOL sounds like a run of the mill everyday medium smoke will say pass on this one. Thanks for the review. This is wild seen them from$30-$240 never seen a swing like that.

    • gtclark

Looks like they were retailing in the $200 range when they were first released…not sure what happened, but CI has them for $40 a box. Still at least $200 a box from the manufacturers direct site. Brings to mind Bryan’s comments about brands and online cigar retail in the last Carlos Torano review…

      • TimB

        Yes you got that right.

  • garlar10

Heavy wood and syrup? Reminds me of the fuente hemingways

  • Jason Isbaner

Doesn’t seem like my cup of tea, but good review.

  • Greg Bellante

I agree with Jason, not my type of cigar… all you had to say and more than once was that it had a snug draw and that did it for me. If you have to work at getting a good flowing draw it’s not worth the trouble. I hate to give Rocky Patel more advertisement than he already has but i have tried almost his entire line of cigars and NOT ONE had a tight or snug draw .

    Cheap stick? Not for me

  • puffrey

Never heard of this but sounds like another tasty stick worth a go!

  • yosef5

    Thanks for this review

We have some good B&M’s in my area, but yet another in a long line of cigar’s I’ve never seen or even heard of. I imagine living in Florida as a cigar enthusiast must be incredible. Very jealous of that !!! lol
Great review as always Bryan. Thanks.

  • vscarpine

Sounds good dont think that I have ever heard of a cigar with syrup type flavor

  • Pokesfan

Sawdust, huh? One of my favorite smells. I like the one’s on the mild side as well.
    Thanks for the review Bryan.

    • Texvet

Oh Ya – Smell of sawdust reminds me of elementary school, when the janitor came in the sprinkle it on some classmates puke

  • mufdvr6976

nice review, sounds interesting…. those are flavors I really enjoy, and the price sounds right! the cheap price that is!

Looking forward to enjoying this one!

  • Dirk

I have never heard of this stick… and have no idea of who the blender is.. any ideas.. who is the parent company?

    • JJO

Good luck finding any info. The last blog entry at their site was almost two years ago, and their last Tweet was over a year ago. I’m assuming they have gone out of business, which would explain a dirt cheap sell-off of inventory to CI, although I could be wrong… Apparently, they are/were an independent boutique brand.

  • Daniel.A

hmm sounds interesting. i have never heard of these. i wonder where i could find some. cool name for the cigar.

  • jimboaf

Just curious, what lighter was that you used in this vid?

  • jpculp57

sounds very run of the mill. seems like a lot of cigars lately have no flair!

I can say with certainty I’ve never heard of this brand.

  • wcfennell

Too mild for my tastes, good review though.

  • ctigers15

Nice review, looks like an interesting smoke.

  • weimerad

Ehhh ill pass on this one

  • dbfr181

Looks like a mild one. I don’t mind that!

  • eric.hanson

Hmmm, this doesn’t sound like it would be a horrible stick bu based on your great review I don’t think it’s one that would be worth my money. Thanks Bryan your reviews have saved me some serious bucks over the years.

  • MaxDuo

Sounds like a tolerable stick…. nothing great (and also nothing bad at all) that I’d seek out, but as long as it doesn’t cost much I’d smoke one here and there I guess.

  • Ty Papke

Thanks for the review, Brian! I must warn anybody who is thinking of buying these that they are very inconsistent from box to box. I loved the box of Belicosos so much that I wanted another. CI was out of the Belicoso size, so I got a box of Churchills. Unfortunately, the flavor is completely different! The woody, sawdust flavor that Brian mentioned (of which I loved so much about the first box) is completely gone, and it is not replaced with anything desirable. The construction is great, but the flavor is just terrible. Perhaps a very long time in the humidor will help…

Usually different sized cigars have different tastes and burn qualities.
