Room 101 Big Delicious Cigar Review

This 6.25×52 torpedo is the 6th Microblend produced for SmokeInn and features a dark brown soft wrapper with a firm pack, slight tooth, a couple small veins, tight seams, dense pack, a partially closed foot and peppery tobacco aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw with plentiful medium-full smoke output showing a slick oily apricot and tobacco with a long sweet finish. The first third produces a very thin airy smoke with a medium body of sweet tobacco and nut, followed by a short wispy finish. Construction is excellent with an even slow draw and light draw. Hitting the 1/2 way point 30 minutes in, the ash holds on in a solid chunk and falls cleanly, body is up to medium-full and the flavors shift a bit adding a big earth to the finish while the draw gets richer. Ending at the hour mark the last third adds a bit of strength rush while the draw drops the nuttiness replacing it with a peppery sweet earth. Thank you very much to SmokeInn for sending this pre-release along for review!

  • Dirk

Interesting, you seemed to be enjoying this stick.. what the heck were the things on the fence to your left our right? bugs on the lens.. or lizards?

just prior to the end of the video.

    • Walshy

That is his gnute or salamander. You’ll see it in a ton of Bryan’s videos.

      • Marc

That sounds like an interesting contest theme ?

        B’)

        • swj045

          or recipe. haha

          • drewmcneice

She turned me into a gnute!….I got better…

    • It’s an anole, similar to a chameleon. Interestingly enough, originally native to Cuba (and the Bahamas).

Bryan, I’ve noticed you typically don’t specify the type of wrapper leaf. Is this because sometimes it’s obvious or in the name?

Thanks for another great review, I’m going to have to try SmokeInn.

      Pete

  • Walshy

Another excellent review Bryan. So I take it the first half of this stick was a little underwhelming? I hate that, when you think it should be one way and it turns out the complete opposite. But I guess that’s the fun and enjoyment of trying new sticks. Bryan, thank you.

    • MaxDuo

It is a shame that the start ended up being underwhelming, as the apricot flavor definitely sounded unique. I’m still very new to cigars, but it’s great to get some flavor that feels completely unique to a cigar.

And at least it picked up nicely for the end, slight pity about the strength though. I’m a lightweight like Bryan and that mixed w/ drinking some whiskey or something at the same time usually does lead to me feeling pretty dizzy and a bit tired after.

  • Romberry

When I saw the title of this review in my RSS feed, my first thought was that “big delicious” was adjective. Didn’t consider that might be the name of the cigar. And Room 101…well…I wouldn’t have considered that as a name. See Room 101 from Orwell’s 1984 for the connotation that came to mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_101

    • JJO

Room 101 is the name of Matt Booth’s custom jewelry company, so it was used when he teamed up with Camacho to create the line. Whether it has anything to do with “1984”, I haven’t been able to find out.

  • Jared

Sounds good. May have to browse through this one. Newbie that I am, I would never know enough to decide if a retailer’s “house blend” or other custom sticks are a good choice or not. This one sounds like a good batch.

    • Walshy

I wouldn’t consider smoke inn’s microblend cigars a “house blend”. Cause they consist of Tatuaje’s, Padron, and now Room 101. Way better then your everyday b&m house blends.

      • Jared

See? That’s the kind of stuff I don’t know! Thanks!

        • Walshy

You got it. You will get a lot of help with questions on Bryan’s site.

          • Jared

And that’s why I keep coming back! And now that I’ve browsed through SI’s page and checked these and others out, I get it. Definitely NOT “house blends” like Thompson, CI, or JR. See? Learning.

  • fiatster

Sounds like a pretty interesting stick. Nice review Bryan.

  • Jason Isbaner

Seemed to develop into a good stick, great review

  • Andrew

The foot looks a little sloppy on this one and flavors seem a bit underwhelming compared to the name.

    • Andrew

On a more positive note, I love the higher video quality. It looks amazing.

  • cassanpj

What’s the point of having a slightly closed cigar? Is it just extra flair or does it somehow help with the burn?

    • TimB

Closed do you mean the way it was rolled? Depends on the roller and the amount of tobacco he or she uses I would think.

    • Kace

I have seen Bryan talk about that in some of his videos. It’s purely for aesthetics.

    • Walshy

I read that it really isnt a closed foot but more of just the wrapper extending out past the foot. The reasoning behind this particular cigar was so you can get a blast of wrapper flavor right of the initial light.

    • Kalven

It is just a way to get a good taste of the wrapper before it hits the filler

  • ryanryan2120

i think it compreses and chanels the smoke

  • cioker

Enjoy your reviews. Could you include retail price ranges in your comments?

    • AngSolo

I believe Bryan doesn’t include prices because they vary widely depending on your location.

    • Kace

Check out smoke inn for the price. I picked up a box and a cool tshirt. Great people there. I emailed them to ask if they could make a bigger shirt than 3x and they contacted me next day saying the would make 1 especially for my at no extra charge. I thought that was absolutely awesome!!

      • Pjhosler

Smoke inn is an awesome company to do business with. They have 8 or so bm’s and a great online sales Program Based herein south Florida. They are truly dedicated to customer service unlike some others who speak it not deal it.(Thompson ) also with your delivery there is always a hand written note by your agent thanking you for you business. It always feels nice to read your thank you.

        • Walshy

100% agree with both of you. Their customer service is top notch. I live in Pa, some 1100 miles away and always receive my order on the second day. It blew me away the first time and it continues to be that way. My 1st order they threw in a hat, 2nd they threw in a 4 pack of Illusione. I will continue to use them for my online orders.

          • MaxDuo

Same here! I participated in those review contests Bryan did about half a year ago and ordered the deals he set up with them. On the first one I considered getting the hat, but changed my mind. Then the hand written note and hat came and I was impressed! Next time came another note, a very awesome touch. If I were better off for money right now I’d order from them a little more often.

  • Joseph Szeremet

Although conventional wisdom often leads one to the conclusion that one should NOT judge a book (or cigar)by its cover (or band for that matter). In this case I will through conventional out the proverbial window. That name and band of this cigar is awesome, I would give it a shot just because its so original. I love it when cigar companies stretch the boundaries even if its just a little.

    • JJO

Actually, the band font and promotional graphics are straight out of the movie “Super Fly”. Just Abe and Matt having some fun, I think.

      • Joseph Szeremet

Good call! I knew I recognized it from somewhere.

        • JJO

          Curtis Mayfield!!

  • cioker

By the way, picked up a box of Nat Sherman Timless #2(Honduras, I think). Fantastic smoke, great flavor. Way different from the horrible Nat Sherman’s of years ago. Would like to hear your opinion of them. Any chance of a review?

    • Kace

Hey Cj, you should send one in to Bryan. He might review it for ya.

  • dbfr181

I’ll. be at smokeInn tomorrow to see if they have any!

    • Kace

According to the web site they are having a releasing on te 29th. That one Bryan smokes was prob just a review sample.

  • superdutyal

Great review that sounds like a stick i must try

  • garlar10

Looks like a cool stick. I haven’t bought anything from cigarinn yet but maybe I should start soon. I also like your line about “its very, whats the word im thinking of?… light?” not often you are at a loss of words haha.

    • Walshy

Smoke inn not Cigar inn. I used to get the 2 mixed up as well. You won’t after ordering from Smoke inn though.

      • garlar10

Oh you’re right. Thanks for pointing that out. I fell like an idiot because I was just checking out the smoke inn website too. Oh well, you mean what I know, haha

  • RyanG

I’ve never tried any of the 601’s. At least this one ramped up towards the end.

    • LordCybor

This is not a 601 brand cigar. Its a Room 101, and if I’m not mistaken owned by Camacho.

      • garlar10

601, room 101, aging room. Funny how easily it is to get some of these brands mixed up…

  • neocigaro

Sounds like a cigar that i would enjoy haha love the lizards or salamanders whatever they are in the background.

  • yosef5

Sounds like a stick that I would like Thanks for this review

  • vscarpine

Looks like an exotic pet shop in the back ground…but great review sounds good!!

  • Dale

Looks like one I would like to try. Just not sure if I want to spend $45 to find out.

    • Craig

I hope that price is for a 4 or 5 pack at $45 and not for a single. It has to be. Right?

      • zzpop102

You are correct. It is $44.75 for a 5 pack on smoke inn’s website.

  • curtpick

Not sure what to gather from this. Seems interesting but may not fit my palette. Maybe worth a 5ver ? Shall see. Thanks Bryan !

  • kurngar

I love this cigar, I was lucky enough to win a 5 pack of them. Awesome flavor

  • danzig777

Interesting cigar, never had one of these, but I think I’m going to have to try them real soon.

  • ryan b

That stick looks great! On a side note, I miss the shrubs that used to be in front of your fence haha

    • Me too. 11 of my Star Jasmine died off this year.

  • Romel

Sounds like a winner Bryan. I’ll need to check one out.

  • MorganGeo

Think I may try this one to support smokeinn bc they support CO. 🙂

  • spockwannabe

The video quality is incredible! I feel like I’m right there with you while you smoke it. The close-ups of the cigar are awesome. Keep up the great work Bryan!

  • Swede214

This cigar just might work for me, I enjoy the mild to medium. Your review sounds like that, thanks.

  • ctigers15

I definitely want to try one when they are released. Great review once again.

  • I’m gonna be totally honest here. I haven’t really loved any of their micro blends. Not that they aren’t good. Just wasn’t inlove with them.

  • david121

    2 things.
    1. where did you get that polo shirt Bryan??
    2. Great review, sounds good!
ive never had the microblends from smoke inn, but i plan on trying some! namely the my father and the gurkha

  • stevenknisley

this cigar really interested me until the whole strength rush part. I hate that in a cigar
    great review

    • I agree with you on that brother. Nothing ruins a cigar like a solid rush to the head.

      • zzpop102

I actually like cigars with strength. It just goes to show that everyone is different and thats why there are so many different types of cigars. To each their own.

  • chizzlechink

I’m calling it a big geko or a skink.

  • weimerad

Looking forward to smoking this cigar. I’ve smoked all the other Smoke Inn micro blends and non have yet to disappoint

  • Sinsandman

A great review on a brand I have been eyeballing. This cigar sounds unique in flavor but a little lack luster. Does anyone have any experience with the Room 101 Conjura?

  • zanlamb

Not sure this is going to be one I will try. On the other hand Smoke Inn is getting a grreat review by everyone. I will need to find one when I’m in Miami

  • Brandonsr81

No sure about the name though. I wouldn’t walk into a B&M and say “You know where I can find the Big Delicious?” Just seems gay IMO.

  • puffrey

great review, I like the way it finished.

  • MR_EXPRESS

Maybe they should rename it the Small Delicious? Anyways, the band looks pretty cool, and I would smoke it in a heartbeat.

  • jablaze

It looks like something made my Philly lol, i hate the band, but would like to check it out anyways.

  • Kalven

I noticed that another Smokeinn special production, the My Father El Hijo, has the opposite foot construction: There the wrapper is a bit shorter than the filler. Allow the smoker to taste the filler binder without wrapper first. Opposite the way this cigar lets you taste the wrapper first.

  • Chaz

Sounds good. That band has a funky 70’s vibe to it…

  • eric.hanson

Hmmm, I got to say after seeing this review I’m kind of glad I didn’t order any of these when I got the promo emails, doesn’t sound like it’s for me. But good review.

  • Orrza

    Sounds like a delicious stick!

Love the lizard at 5:22 🙂

  • drewmcneice

Has a finny name….but sounds good I guess, I’ll keep my eye out for it.

  • AngSolo

I’m a sucker for these kinds of promotions. I even like the tee shirts. I hope these are are good, worth a 5 pack shot.

  • pclose93

these cigars are they going to have them out forever? or are they a limited release smoke?

  • Gigalo de Vitolas

I love Smoke Inn and try to order from them for most of my cigar purchases but after this review I’m glad I didn’t go buy these. The Tatuaje black I bought instead are delicious!

  • lrogers

Loved the Horn Toads on your fence!!
