Saint Luis Rey Gen2 Toro Cigar Review
This 6×54 stick features a dark brown oily satin finished wrapper with a paper bag texture, minimal veins, tight invisible seams, large double cap, slightly spongy even pack and very pungent barnyard aroma. First light reveals a good draw with minimal smoke showing mild-medium flavor of a creamy leather and tingly pepper coupled with a short finish. The first third quickly brings up the body to medium and produces much more smoke showing a straight tobacco core with quite a bit of deep rough pepper especially through the now long finish. The 1/2 way point comes at 45 minutes continuing the perfect burn, dropping the ash at the first to second transition. Flavors are pretty much the same with just a small sweetness on the draw and the pepper a tiny bit smoother through the finish. Ending at 1:35 min the last third not only ramped up strength to medium-full but brought back the smooth leather, going to a deep full earth finish past the band point. Thank you very much to Altadis for sending this sample in for review!
