Partagas 8-9-8 Varnished Cigar Review
This Cuban 6.75×43 stick features a very spongy lumpy packed dark brown wrapper with a glove soft oily feel, minimal veins, tight invisible seams, double triple cap and very faint cedar aroma. First light reveals a snug draw with good smoke output showing full bodied flavors of a thick smooth syrupy earth with a little bit of heat coming through on the finish. The first third burns very well opening the draw to normal producing nice thick smoke. Flavors are largely unchanged bringing a cream to the draw and a tingle on the lips through the finish. Construction is great dropping the ash in inch chunks. Half way through the 2nd third flavors drop the musty earth replaced by a slick creamy wood, carrying still through the long full finish. The ash still drops in inch chunks hitting the 1/2 way point 35 min in. Ending at 1:20 the last third showed no further changes to flavors although the quality of burn went down, not wanting to stay lit and the body went down to a medium.
