La Perla Habana Black Pearl Cobre 60 Ring Sampler Edition Cigar Review
This 6×60 cigar, available only in the 60 Ring Sampler, features a slightly green tan wrapper with a butter soft feel, firm pack, small veins, dark prominant seams, a few small blemishes here and there, double cap and rich hay aroma. First light reveals a slick oily tobacco with a bit of bitterness that carries over to a long finish of the same. Draw is good, smoke output is very good, body is a medium. The first third brings medium-full body flavors of a smooth, oily sweet nut with a finish that’s getting shorter, also adding a cinnamon tingle and sweetness. Smoke output is excellent, burn is almost razor sharp. 35 minutes in at the 1/2 way point, the ash had fallen off in a solid chunck and the cinnamon had started creeping in to the draw flavors. Just starting the last third, a buttery creamy flavor joined in, mixing very well with the nuttiness. Ending at 1:10 the last third was unfortunately cut short by a construction flaw. The band had a big glob of glue that tore the wrapper and when the burn line hit it, the wrapper blew apart and was not contributing to the flavors anymore. Thank you very much to Owen Johnson for generously sending this in for review, I greatly appreciate it!
