Cigar Obsession YouTube Video Contest – Free Cigars & Swag

Posted on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in World of CO

EDIT – CLOSED

OK boys & girls, we have a new giveaway contest for the New Year! Up for grabs is over $100 in cigars, at least 10 premium smokes plus some swag!

How to win this treasure trove you ask? Easy! It’s a 2 step contest for this haul:

Step 1: Make a video somehow involving CigarObsession.com. It can be anything you like, but for your sake it better be popular! Think out of the box, think viral. Funny, Serious, Parody – it’s all good as long as it relates to the site. Get it made and get it up on YouTube. After it’s live post the link here and I’ll add it in this thread.

Step 2: This is how you win! Whoever gets the most YouTube comments (one per person counted) on their video takes home the stash! It will be up to you to get your vid noticed and get people to comment (tip – use your video content). On March 1st 2010 I will tally the numbers and announce the winner. Now for those thinking of cheating don’t bother. Whoever puts that kind of effort in to getting real results will blow away any cheater by 10x. Keep it fair guys!

NOTE: This contest is open to those 19 or older in the US and Canada only.

Good luck!

100,000 Visitors!

Posted on Friday, December 25, 2009 in World of CO

EDIT – CONTEST CLOSED – Congratulations Danny Davis!

First and foremost thank you all for making this site a little part of your routines! Without all of you, there would be no point to all this!

It’s only been 9 months but finally, CigarObsession has hit the first milestone I consider significant – 100,000 unique visitors! About triple that in pageviews, but I’m most impressed with how many people come, not how many pages they look at.

I started this site to fill a nitch I saw on the net – video cigar reviews with only the viewer in mind. No rating, no personal opinion of ‘good/bad’. No subjectiveness, just the facts. All boiled down to the basics – how does it burn, what does it taste like? Every time I get a comment from someone thanking me for the reviews, I have to smile and it makes it all worth it! It’s not easy, but it’s a lot of fun, especially making all the new contacts with so many of you in the cigar world!

Even though no one in the industry was/is interested in sponsoring the site I am VERY grateful to my lone sponsor, Canishosting.com – I can’t give them enough props! I come from an IT background and have used dozens of different hosts over the years. Long story short they give me phenomenal service and performance at a very moderate cost. Being a professional photographer I go through many Gigabytes of data per month, and their servers blow everyone else in the price range away – it’s not even CLOSE. So if you ever need a web host – go with them – you will NOT regret it! I run multiple sites including this one on them, and also have many of my clients with them now.

To further celebrate this milestone I will be giving away a 5 pack of premium smokes to a random person that leaves a comment on this article. This will be open to anyone over the age of 19, anywhere in the world. The winner will be drawn just after the first of the year.

Cutter Comparison: Spike vs. Punch vs. Straight vs. Angle

Posted on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in Accessory Reviews, Polls

This is a comparison of the major types of different ways to cut a cigar. Shown are the characteristics and differences between the new Cigar Spike, a punch cutter built in to one of my lighters I got from Buylighters.com, a traditional straight cut by a Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter, and on a torpedo a straight vs. angled cut by a Xikar. The video is in two parts (part two will play automatically after one). Photography by BG Pictures.

Along with the videos we have a poll – tell us what your favorite cut is and comment on why!

What is your preffered cut?

Welcome to Cigar Obsession

Posted on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in Informational

Hi, I’m Bryan Glynn Editor of Cigar Obsession.

This project is going to be a labor of love for me, simply taking you through my ongoing quest for the ‘perfect’ cigar. What I bring to the table is both popular and unique. Let me explain!

I am not an aficionado. I am not an expert. I am simply a regular guy who happens to LOVE cigars. I give honest reviews without the subjectiveness. Just the facts – how does it burn and what does it taste like?

I will be providing video reviews, from this exact perspective. I want to give everyone else the kind of information about each and every puro I encounter, that will help you decide if a particular stick is something that may appeal to you. Perhaps like myself, you are out to discover all the endless combinations of flavor, taste, aroma, strength, etc. Maybe like myself you also have an ideal in your mind that you hope to someday match to a particular stick.

I am fully aware that tastes range wildly. Both perceptually and chemically. What one person describes as full-bodied, another may consider mild! I will bracket my experiences, providing as many reference points as possible with my reviews.

My goal is to provide a complete review of the experience from start to finish, not simply a cursory reading of a stat sheet and a quick pan of an unlit stick or box. No, I want to convey the full sensations, exploring the nuances of each cigar fully.
