Guy Stuff How To Do A Brake Job

Posted on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Guy Stuff

Untitled-1This was originally going to be a tidbit video on my HLO channel but a couple people suggested it would be a good fit for Guy Stuff, so why not! I know, you don’t have to say it – 48 min for a brake job vid?! Well it’s not just the quick 10 step how to vid like most out there. I speed some parts up but take you through the basics, show you some common problems, explain why you want to do certain things, explain how it all works and try to give a little education along the way :) This vid will cover the vast majority of vehicles on the road, so you don’t need to be working on a 2012 Kia Soul like mine. There’s absolutely nothing special about this car, it’s a simple single piston disc brake model and I give it a little upgrade. The car originally came from Ohio so it had a bit of a rust problem on some of the stock parts, and I show you how to deal with those too. Every guy needs to know how to do basic car repair!

EDIT: To everyone with an opinion on everything – consider there is info you are not aware of before posting. For example the torque wrench you see me use is simply an old unit I keep around for use as a breaker bar/lug wrench. Not all cars come with one – such as the Soul and my previous MINIs, you have to provide your own. (more…)

CO Guy Stuff – 2012 vs 2013 Google Nexus 7 Tablet Comparison

Untitled-1CO Guy Stuff – 2012 vs 2013 Google Nexus 7 Tablet Comparison

I recently upgraded from the 2012 to 2013 Nexus 7 tablet and wanted to run through a bunch of real world stuff so anyone that’s looking to possibly upgrade, or is deciding on getting the new or old while they are still blowing out stock cheap could have a very informed choice. I use it nearly every day quite extensively both for business and personal use, and show you all the stuff that’s obvious when using some apps, mention a few points about the physical changes and give you a lot of my impressions. It’s certainly not a clear cut choice since overall the difference is small. But one or more of the points I make might resonate with you to be a game changer like they were for me! (more…)

Guy Stuff – Smoked Turkey Sausage And Cajun Shrimp Gumbo Over Rice

20130826gumbo0002-EditMixing a little cajun creole and gumbo together, this is a very spicy but not fire-breathing way to get some awesome flavors goin! Smoking the sausage gives you absolutely delicious layers of flavor and texture, and the best part is none of the heat goes away in the fridge after reheating unlike using dry spices. Feel free to use fillings of your choice, crawfish would be excellent or even adding some sweet corn to the pot. But this is a sure fire hit for anyone that loves bold flavor, spices and filing but surprisingly light good eats!

Guy Stuff – Fettuccine with Smoked Salmon Scallops & Shrimp

Posted on Friday, August 16, 2013 in Guy Stuff

20130725fss0003-EditWhile I was in Vegas we splurged one night, eating at an Italian place in the Venetian. I had one of the most scrumptious sauces ever, on a seafood fettuccine. It was infused with smoky salmon goodness and I thought – hey, I can do this! It reheats very well, I’ve been eating it for days now!

Guy Stuff – Crab Stuffed Salmon On The BBQ

Posted on Sunday, June 30, 2013 in Guy Stuff

20130614css0001-EditMixing two of my favorite seafoods, especially on the grill, we have the sweet succulent flavors of the crab meant mixing with the oily goodness of the flaky salmon! No added salt to this makes it very healthy! Easy to make I pair it with my home made hot fries, again with no salt, and do them along side the fish also on the grill! No mess, quick and easy, try it now :)

Guy Stuff – Hot & Sour Seafood Soup

Posted on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in Guy Stuff

20130609hss0001-EditAnother great combo vid, taking a cue from my favorite Japanese restaurants, this is a fresh and light fish soup with a refreshing zing. Very flavorful yet thin and light it keeps all the different flavors and textures of the ingredients separate, giving each spoon full it’s own mix. Easy to make and rather inexpensive you can add other seasonings as you see fit but I like it as-is!

Guy Stuff – Turkey Bacon Burgers

20130514tb0004-EditGuy Stuff – Turkey Bacon Burgers

Taking a queue from my World’s Best Burger recipe this is a turkey version, and some will say it’s even BETTER (my wife included). With very similar spice layouts, this one sacrifices NO flavor or juice, and I challenge anyone to say it’s not a top beef burger if they didn’t know :) Slow cooking the bacon on the grill adds to the decadent flavor package, adding crispy and savory goodness for your taste buds :) (more…)

Guy Stuff – Beef Stew

20130503bstew0001-EditGuy Stuff – Beef Stew

This is like a super amped up crock pot meal! You get the delicious browning for more flavors and it’s still super easy to make! There is quite a bit of prep time but obviously it scales well to feed a huge group or just a meal for four. It uses cheap beef that is cooked slow for maximum value, and proves to be a hearty chunky manly meal! (more…)

Guy Stuff – Cream of Smoked Turkey & Wild Rice Soup

20130511cts0001-EditGuy Stuff – Cream of Smoked Turkey & Wild Rice Soup

Back on the smoker this time, I show you not only how to make the main event for this recipe, but how to pull off the best damn Thanksgiving turkey you’ll ever have :) Just don’t try and compete with the wife or mom, you’ll piss them off when your turkey goes first! SUPER easy to make you can use any kind of basting you wish, I prefer a good beer, using Samuel Adams Boston Lager here, with some olive oil and italian seasoning. I think it adds just enough punch without becoming to prominent. If you haven’t had real wild rice before in soups or dishes (more…)
