Sam Leccia Black Toro Cigar Review

This 6×50 stick features a ashy dark brown oily wrapper with an even slightly spongy pack, a couple medium veins, tight invisible seams, triple cap and rich hay aroma. First light reveals a great draw with good medium bodied smoke production showing a parched, dry tobacco on the draw quickly followed by a long smooth sweet earth on the finish joining in. The first third melds all the first light flavors together, both the same on the draw and the finish. Burn is fast and decent but not razor sharp. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 35 minutes, the tobacco core drops out leaving a thicker deep earth with a bit of pepper on the finish. The sweetness goes towards a caramel and gets oily and longer lasting. Burn is good and the ash holds for decent chunks. Finishing at 55 minutes the third shows no further changes.

I bought a box of the Sam Leccia White . Big mistake as i stupidly bought into the marketing hype from the Big 3 on-line retailers. I paid like $167 and it was just an average cigar at best, it didn’t burn even and the flavors what flavors it had were very mundane and run of the mill . I could have paid just $40 more and got a box of Padron’s.

I had a five pack of this cigar and loved it. I am surprised you didn’t mention the fire cured tobacco. It has a camp fire smell and flavor to me. Did you notice it, and how does it compare to the Kentucky fired cured by Drew Estate??

    • Didn’t notice any (would have said so obviously) and the DE KFC is more potent as far as that goes.

  • I must admit, you had me chuckling at the end. Thanks for another awesome review, Bryan.

I picked up a single from c-bid earlier this week. Should arrive today. I’ve been curious about the whole fire cured thing. Never tried a KFC, and won’t until I find a better deal. They seem a bit overpriced IMO.

I like the Leccia White and Luchador. Going to try the Black soon.
