Ave Maria Reconquista Cigar Review

This 7×54 stick comes in a coffin with a unique lifting wedge. The wrapper is a very dark chocolate, almost black with a dense firm pack, small veins, tight invisible seals, an oily slightly toothy feel and potent oily dark cocoa aroma. First light reveals a snug draw putting of decent enough medium-full smoke output with an oily sweet chocolate and earth on the draw followed by a peppery earth through the substantial finish. The first third unfortunately grows tighter, producing less smoke bringing the body down to mild-medium, while flavors get quite washed just showing a slightly sweet peppery damp earth on both the draw and finish. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 45 minutes, the draw has slowly improved – still snug but body is up to a medium with good smoke output. Burn time is great and the line is razor sharp, holding the ash more than 1/2 way through. Flavors are unchanged. Ending at just over 1 1/2 hours where flavors were still the same but the strength ramped up to full, burn was still very good and the body was quickly eclipsed. Thank you very much to viewer Bret Barber for sending this to review!

I am with you on the torpedo’s. Not one of my favorite styles. I like lancero’s and rubusto’s.
Most of the torpedo’s are very snug and low smoke and flavor output. I do not buy them at all. Thanks for another great review.

: Bryan. I remember sending you in the Ave Maria Lion-Heart and you had NO problems with the draw and seemed to enjoy the stick. It was a toro size and no torpedo problems to deal with. I like you stay away from Torpedo’s unless it comes to me as a freebie with a cigar purchase , i don’t even like the Box Pressed cigar but the good old fashioned round tip is the best . Pigtails are ok and it’s a must to have the Perfect cigar cutter for them.

I’m a big fan of the Reconquista, but like Bryan, I’ve had to do a relight at that same spot almost every time.

  • Texvet

    Bad outing

    • Texvet

Not a great experience. At least the coffin didn’t turn on you!!

  • RamzaFreak20

Those things are amazing with some age. Too bad you had a snug draw, as I put this on the same level as PAM 64s.

  • yosef5

Well I have smoked other of their cigars with no problem
    Thanks for this review

Sorry you had a bad experience with the draw and nicotine-ending! I also have the same Prometheus lighter and it’s giving me trouble again- it sparks but no flame!

  • reconn7

Damn I just bought like 10 of these off cbid, i hope i have a different experience, gonna let them age a while

THEE ONE cigar I’ve waited for you to review and it has to be one of the ultra rare waste of time reviews that you’ve done…10 mins of bitching about torpedos and a broken lighter.

  • John Withem

Ahhh… A tight cigar and a defective lighter. I feel you brother.

  • Jared Grillot

That nic kick right toward the end is the one thing that will get me to end a stick early

  • BIG_Traveler

I just tried this stick for the 1st time. I gave it 2 snips w/ my perfect cutter & it drew fine the whole way down; sorry you had a bad one. I really liked it & can’t wait to get to the other 2 in my Humi. I liked the flavors & loved the ramp up @ the end!!!

BG, I was thinking at first you may have had a dud. I smoked one last night. Great draw, tons of thick smoke, razor sharp burn. Then I hit the second third. Had to relight as it went out and it tunneled. Had to relight again in the final third. I’ve read a number of reviews on the Reconquista and apparently they’re hit and miss. Overall not a bad smoke though. I hope the two others I have are okay.

  • Andrew Miles

I can’t agree more with the torpedos total hit or miss. If i have the option of choosing I stay away from torpedos just from the simple fact that they come with a lot of draw issues and thus burn issues.

  • Ben Smith

Too bad about your experience with the Reconquista. I smoked my first one yesterday and couldn’t be happier with it. Mine was an easy draw the whole time, lot of smoke, straight burn line, and great flavors. Just wanted to throw that in. 🙂
