This is a special monthly feature where I will spotlight some of my favorite boutiques! This month the honor goes to Pinar Del Rio Cigars! These guys have been on a whirlwind tour as of late, expanding by leaps and bounds not only in production size (still well under the umbrella of the Boutique moniker though) but blend availability and even 3rd party brand distribution! I have worked with them for many years as a photography client doing ad and catalog shots and thus have always had the pleasure of experiencing the new lines months in advance. They are unique in my eyes for not only having a huge variety of blends and sizes, but having most of them hit home for me. I can’t count the number of PDR sticks I have sent off as prizes or given to friends and they consistently give me great feedback about how they love it, need more and want to know where to buy them! While my absolute favorite PDR blends may not be in production these days, they are sure to hit home as a future favorite maker for you if you give them a shot!

I had never heard of these either until I got some from you earlier in the year. WoW!! Was I impressed!! Super delich. Only problem is they’re not available locally. Thanks for all the info and work you’ve done for the cigar world in 2013. I imagine 2014 will be even better!

    Hi all,
I have nothing againist them, But they sure
look like the PARTAGAS, SERIES No.4 Cubans,
I find that the Cuban bands are copyed quiet a lot by the makers of N.C.’s.
    Amicalement,

I found PDR while shopping at my B&M and have tried all the ones that they carry. I have a few burn issues with them but I smoke the bigger ring gauges. I like that my B&M seems to take chances on the new cigars on the market. Anyways PDR makes a great cigar and will continue to be found in my humidor.

I got turned on to PDR through CI and your early reviews. They produce some great cigars. A personal favorite is the Oscuro.

  • RamzaFreak20

PdR on of my favorite labels, equal to RP and Oliva in my book. Quality and taste, especially for the money, is unmatchable.

I bought 5 PDR singles today at the B&M. I honestly didn’t realize that they even carried them. Looking forward to the experience. Thanks Bryan.

When you say the Capa Maduro is one of your favorites right now, are you referring to the Cubano Especial Capa Maduro? I want to pick one up to try but I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks Bryan

What’s the difference between the cigars that are sold under the full name, Pinar del Rio and the ones sold under the PDR label, if any? CI has these listed separately, i.e. a section for PDR and another for Pinar del Rio.

    • I don’t know, might just be the way they put it in the system

I got some PDR from thompson when I used to buy from them they were red label looked pretty cheap cant remember the name. They were all horrible so I never gave them another look after that. That might have been a blend just for thompson so who knows. Ill have to revisit them This was about 2 or 3 yrs ago

    • Those are one of the few where the name was licensed. They have nothing to do with PDR and I wish they had never struck that bargain, they are shit.

      • Mikey Mazur

Thanks for the info I didnt know that. And yes that def put a bad taste for me when it came to PDR so seeing it on here has made me rethink the lines. Thanks for this series Bryan. It is awesome!
