5 Vegas AAA (2013) Cigar Review

This 6×54 stick features a dark chocolate firm, oily toothy wrapper with minimal veins, tight invisible seams, double cap and a faint peppery damp earth aroma. First light reveals a slightly loose draw with plenty of rich medium-full smoke output showing flavors of a dry coffee and earth with a bit of pepper coming through the long finish. The first third smooths everything out giving a creamy texture, tiny bit of sweetness to the earth on the draw and adding an oily slick left on the lips. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 40 minutes the 2nd third gets even smoother and creamier taking out much of the pepper leaving a lingering dark roasted coffee through the finish, still at a near full body. Ending at 1:10 minutes where the nub got very hot, the last third just brought in a medium strength to the mix. Thank you very much to Joe Canez for sending in this sample!

    Sounds good, thanks B.

    Sounds like a good stick
    Thanks

I have always been hesitant about 5Vegas because how much CI displays them. I had a gold and it was ok.

I’m not a big fan of the Gold either. Having said that, the Series A, High Primings and Miami are good sticks to try. To my knowledge, most of the 5 Vegas line are blended by AJ Fernandez, who is a top blender.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind next time I am looking for something new.

MMM I love most of AJ Fernandez’s stuff. My favorite blender at the moment. Great review.

I have really enjoyed the robusto vitola of this cigar. I didn’t realize that it was available in any other sizes. I searched all of the major online retailers and was unable to find it in any size other than robusto. After talking to my sales rep at cigar.com I found out that the size reviewed is only available in a combo pack. Cigar.com does have this cigar in a 6.25″ x 52 torpedo. Needless to say I ordered a ten pack since I prefer smaller ring gauges!

I guess I should have watched the video before making my previous comment. As I said the size reviewed is only available in a sampler. The torpedo is not listed on the site, my salesperson told me about this size being available.

  • Robert

I’ll have to pull one of these out to try again. The first one was a lot of spice / pepper which is not my favorite. I like the plain “A” better.

  • Griff

I can’t remember where I got them but I have some of these in lancero. I’ll send you one with my next lottery entry.

Bryan, I just won an AJ Fernandez Choice Cuts 54 ring sampler from cigarbid.com. The 5 Vegas AAA is in the sampler and it’s listed as a 6×54. Actually all 10 cigars in the sampler are advertised as 6×54. Here’s some of the wording in the sampler description: “Never before has such a stunning selection of Abdel-made premiums been put together, so a special 6″x54 Toro size was created to celebrate.” So, there you have it. Great reviews by the way! :)

Recently purchased (Feb. 2014) an A.J. Fernandez sampler pack (20 sticks) from CI. They sell the sampler as either the A.J. Fernandez Kitchen Sink Sampler for $60 (in their catalog) or the CI Kitchen Sink Sampler for $40 (on the website). A $20 difference for exactly the same number, size and assortment of sticks….go figure. Any way, the cigar you’re calling the 5 Vegas AAA is included in the sampler. CI says all the sticks are 6 x 50. Can’t vouch for the ring size, but the length of the stick is definitely 6 inches. To me it tastes and smokes pretty much as you said in your review. A great smoke.
