Tabacalera Zapata Robustos Cigar Review

This 5×50 stick features a dark tan buttery smooth wrapper with a firm pack, minimal veins, tight seams, triple cap and soft barnyard aroma. First light reveals a snug draw with decent medium-bodied smoke output showing flavors of a slightly bitter smooth tobacco with a grassy short finish. The first third quickly drops the bitterness in favor of a touch of sweet along with a medium bodied creamy spicy vanilla. The finish morphs to a nutty tobacco with an oily mouthfeel and a spicy tingle left over on the lips. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 35 minutes I tap the ash off to prevent a huge mess lol! Flavors on the draw are still medium bodied with no strength, dropping the sweet and vanilla notes in favor of a toast and tobacco. The long finish moves to a deep oily earth, lasting to the next draw. Finishing it off at the hour mark to the nub, a bit of the sweetness joins back in the draw for the last third with a rise in spice on the lips along with the smoke temperature. Construction is still flawless. Thank you very much to Kuuts.com for sending this in!

    Can’t see it! HELP!!!

Your pictures make me want to smoke it without the video.

  • Really enjoyed this smoke, especially the “Spicy Vanilla”.

I guess opinions are like elbows….most everyone has a couple. I’m not “18” years old but I do like for the ash to hold on my cigar. It not only shows how well it is constructed but like you said, keeps the cherry cooler and in my opinion gives better flavors. Not every cigar has the ability to hold a long ash and when I find one that does, I like to see just how far it will go. Yes sometimes it gets me in the lap but hey, it happens to all of us sometime or another. Just my “opinion” on ash. Thanks for the review. Oh, and I liked your use of “exacerbated”.

    • The point of my comment is that past an inch or so, no, it does NOT help cool it whatsoever. That’s fine if you ‘like to see how far it will go’, but there’s no point other than that.

I suppose your right. I mean I don’t get to smoke a cigar every day like you. But when I do, I do like to enjoy it and smoke it how I like. And yes, I like the ash to hold on as long as it will. That’s just me. On 99 percent of the cigars I smoke the ash only holds on an inch or two but occasionally I’ll get one that hangs on and I let it. I’ve saw several of your own reviews where you let the ash get way long. But i suppose smoking for enjoyment and smoking for a review is not the same thing. Just because I like the ash to hold on as long as it will doesn’t make me “18” years old.

        • You don’t need to get so defensive lol! Maybe you aren’t aware that some people will even go so far as to smoke pointing up or put in a paper clip just for a long ash 🙂 yes I leave it go just for reporting but the point is I’m not doing anything but smoking it. That’s the point.

WoW…….didn’t realize I hit a nerve with you. 10/4 on not liking a long ash!

  • Jason Isbaner

    Sounds like a must try

    Good review

So I haven’t been here in a while. What happened to the point system?

  • Dirk

Sound like a very interesting stick.. I tried to find this one last week to no avail. Oh internet, Oh internet.. btw.. Bryan wasn’t ranting about the ash.. just making a point.. I agree with him completely.

    • lrogers

Well neither was I…just making a point as well. But no big deal to me. It’s obvious to me now how he feels. I wasn’t being defensive but offensive. Mearly defending my opinion and it struck a nerve or something. Oh well….guess I should have just kept my comment/opinion to myself. At the top of the page it says “bring on the comments”. It should also say “only of you have something positive to say”.

      • lrogers

I meant to say I wasn’t trying to be defensive “OR” offensive.

        • Dirk

I understand… you do have a point.. and an opinion.. that is also ok with me.. Hang in there..

  • Fabbio

While not wanting to add fuel to the fire I got chuckle out of the paper clip comment. Friends of mine brought over some smokes to test and handed them out with paper clips. When I asked what it was for I was told for the ash. A def wtf moment

  • lrogers

No fire. When Bryan mentioned doing that it was the first I had heard of it. I’ve never tried it nor do I care to but I guess it would work. I probably shouldn’t have escalated my comments like I did. Sorry about the attitude.
