Blanco Nine Lancero Cigar Review

This 7×38 stick features a dark chocolate lumpy satin textured wrapper with a firm pack, minimal veins, tight invisible seams, double cap and potent chocolate and hay aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw with plumes of thick medium-full bodied smoke showing flavors of a slightly bitter wood and chocolate with a long smooth finish. The first third quickly drops the bitterness, shifting to a dark cocoa and black coffee, which is joined by a slight black pepper zing on the long smooth creamy textured finish. Burn is very good but fast, dropping the ash every inch. The 1/2 way point comes quickly at 20 minutes with the only change being the strength ramping up to a medium, giving the flavors a nice kick up. Ending at 40 minutes the last third showed no further changes. This is one of my favorite cigars, I have a ton of them on hand :) You can get them from (which I designed as well).

Why are the lances so much more expensive? Robustos for $120 , lances for $209?

  2. TimB says:

Have to try the Nine only live once. LOL

  3. AngSolo says:

Actually refreshing not seeing ten one word comments that say “nice” or “interesting” I may actually comment more now and not look like a points whore.

Great review, I need to look these up and the power house too!

  5. Boucher207 says:

Id love to try these but unfortunately the box price is a little steep for me! haha

I was wondering when you would review this one. It’s a favorite of mine as well. One question, though. I’ve had a couple that had very tight draws in the first half. Since you’ve smoked a bunch of these, have you had that problem?

I agree that having to buy a full box of thirty is an issue, but imagine the uproar if they hadn’t changed it from fifty like it used to be. ;)

Been going through your premium and hidden treasures sampler Brian, and so far been impressed with every single one. Watched this review and figured I would hit my local B&M up. Unfortunately, it looks like I’ll have to wait to make a few hundred mile road trip to give it a try. Thanks for the reviews though, always enjoy them.

I definitely need to try these. I purchased a box of the Blanco Premiere Selection Connecticut Shade in Robusto and Toro when they had the bandless sale a while back. I would say that I just love this cigars. Many times I choose them over the “premium” brands. They are extremely consistent and have a nice medium flavor. The nines and the Ligra are next on my list.

I had the great fortune of trying one of these (not that size) at a Blanco cigar event that I had been invited to by a well respected cigar reviewer whose opinion I admire greatly. It really is a nice smoke. I also got the chance to meet Dave and he is a super guy…easy to support people like that who are working hard at a family business. His passion for cigars was evident and based on a couple of the blends I tried, he is succeeding!

  10. ascrivner says:

Do you have any idea where we can buy a 5 pack, or are they only sold on their site?

  11. mufdvr6976 says:

nice review bryan, this sounds right up my alley. hopefully Famous or smoke inn will whore these out soon!!

    • JJO says:

Famous was one of the few online retailers that carried them, and I think they still have some robustos, but Dave has said that their primary focus has always been local B&Ms, and they seem to have phased out distribution to online sellers.

i just checked out the blancos site and you my friend are pretty talented!! good job!jack of all trades!!

  13. Jellybean says:

Great review and I have never had the pleasure to try one. Certainly on my to find list now. I am a Lancero fanatic!!

  15. geekfish says:

I really enjoy the lancero format. Been smoking more of them lately. Usually you pay a premium for them.

  16. Chris Tivnan says:

Sat out to smoke a Blanco Nine one night and it literally started raining, a pop up shower, five minutes in. Haven’t had one since.

  17. weimerad says:

Would love to try it those are my kind of flavors

  18. eric.hanson says:

I like the flavors of Lanceros but for some reason I tend to get more plugs on lanceros than other size, does anyone know what this might be?

  19. Gigalo de Vitolas says:

Lanceros def fall in my top 3 favorite sizes. I just wish I could find these locally or in 5 packs like others have commented. Flavors sound solid. Just recently found a dealer selling the san cristobal and LADC 10pk lancero set. Need to score that one first before I go on a witch hunt for these.

  20. smokethis says:

This sounds pretty good. Thanks for review.

  21. PAG says:

I tried to contact them about selling 5-packs on their site but it failed (multiple times) with the message:

“Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

Maybe they received too many requests from the CO Nation and disabled their contact page.

  22. BERn says:

Bryan, Your review raises an issue which always puzzles me. In principle there should be little correlation between flavor and strength. Yet as you point out here strength can ramp up flavor. What is the relationship between strength and flavor?
