American Eagles Robusto Cigar Review

This 5×50 stick features a unique camouflage wrapper using 4 different shade leafs, with a firm even pack, dry soft feel, no traditional seams or cap and a rich hay and tobacco aroma. First light reveals a great draw with plentiful mdium bodied smoke giving a bitter tobacco and slight pepper zing through the finish. The first third quickly drops the bitterness showing a creamy, airy nut and tobacco with a bright long nutty sweet finish. Flavors tend to change draw to draw, a bit no doubt helped by the myriad of wrapper contributions. Burn is very good especially considering the construction, taking 20 minutes to get to the 2nd third. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 35 minutes, construction is very good only needing a slight touchup to a big maduro patch. Flavor mix is still the same while strength is starting to ramp up. Ending at the hour mark the last third shows the same profile but continues the strength buildup, hitting with near-full leaving me sweating and dizzy – I’m a light weight! Thank you very much to PXDepot.com for sending this in for review!

Looks interesting. I like what they are doing, just not sure this ones for me.

  • vscarpine

Like the look of this but burn problems that can arise worry me even though the one you had was fine

  • yosef5

Why is it necssary to make such. A cigar?

    • jpculp57

Why is it necessary to make any cigar? Or any thing for that matter?
It’s something unique and because they are donating proceeds to a military charity they thought a camo cigar made a lot more sense than a pink cigar. Don’t buy it if you don’t care for it.

  • Gigalo de Vitolas

Cool looking stick. Never saw one quite like it. If I can find them at my local BM, I’ll def give them a try.

  • Dirk

Looks like a gag cigar.. have to say I would try one in a free sampler.. but I’m not sure I would be seeking it out..

  • Baron

That’s a cool idea for a cigar, I’ll definitely pick one up if I see it

  • Christopher

Like the idea of combining different leafs for the wrapper, but the cigar just looks gross.

  • USA2ndAmendment

I have been waiting for you to review one of these ever since I saw an ad for them on this website. I love to support military causes and this seems like a great thing. May not be the best cigar ever, but definitely worth novelty, would make a great gift, and it supports our troops. It’s a win win in my eyes!

  • TimB

Unique is right. If I saw it at a store I would pass just because it’s strictly marketing. But now since you say it’s not bad I would give it a try if it’s priced right.

  • sdh3237

I like the look of the cigar and after your review I will be looking for one to try.

  • phaedron

This takes the traditional barber pole concept to a whole new level. It would be cool to see a video from the manufacturer of how these things are rolled!

  • Jason Isbaner

I was just looking at these yesterday, it’s like you read my mind. Great review as always. I just might have to try a few of these. At least the money goes to a good cause.

  • Angel Javier

After see the review I dont think is a cigar for me special when have a lot of different wrappers and you do not mention that they have a lot of flavors. Probably try one but I’m not die for.

  • usaf367

This is awesome!! Definitely going to have try it. Lots of strength is what I like! Plus it supports my fellow armed forces brothers! Anybody know of any other cigars with a America theme? I know the CAO America and I think some called A.K.A? Thanks!

    -Alex USAF hua!

  • Greg Bellante

Dang, it must be a strong cigar… the hair on the right side of your head started to stick straight out and up as you got to the last 3rd of the stick lmao. I don’t know if any-one else noticed that but it sure wasn’t the wind that made your hair stick out . I just finished a Rocky Patel 1990 Reserve,I don’t think this is a cigar for me, i want my hair to stay down on my head . Bryan, your reviews are always entertaining … wouldn’t miss them for a box of Padron’s.

  • Craig

Very cool stick and interesting lighter. I look forward to the review of it and hopefully the upcoming give away! I saw it on your HLO site and was wondering when we would see it here.

  • rockjock

Looks like a novelty cigar, but sounds like a decent smoke. I like that they donate some of the proceeds.

  • markbrown247

I doubt I would be interested in this and I agree with TimB & Bryan that I’m not in favor of marketing like this, but I would try this once and wouldn’t refuse one if given one by a buddy. Too bold for me perhaps.

  • Jared

Love the cause, though wasn’t sure about the stick, but that’s a heck of a pedigree. Sounds like the flavor combinations were fun, and glad to know there’s a kick at the end. I hate when those sneak up. May have to buy a few.

  • gtclark

Geez that’s one serious lighter! Great review

  • jpculp57

Thanks for the review. I’ve been eyeing these on your banner side and now I’m going to buy some. Not only do they actually sound decent, but they are badass to look at and they donate to our military hero’s in need. HOOAH!!

  • It’s funny when you get dizzy

  • Camshaft83

A camo cigar? In my opinion that is pretty sweet. Especially one that smokes well and some of the proceeds go to our troops. What more could you ask for?

  • lostonmonday

Emetrol (or anti nausea liquid) is $5 at Wal-mart, and cures the effects of a strong cigar. My boss doesn’t smoke cigars, but had one last week and didn’t make it to work till 2:00 the next day, and she was still puking. I got her some Emetrol, and she was back to normal in 10 minutes! It’s just dextrose and fructose, but is seems to work faster than candy or a Tbs of sugar. Anyway, just thought I’d share the tip.
Thanks for the review! I’ve been curious about these cigars, but didn’t want to buy any until I got more info on them. Next time I buy a cigar, I think I’ll try one of these 🙂

  • rgmenke

That’s got to be a tough cigar to make well.

  • 2dogdad

Maybe, just a little too much gimmick for this old cowboy!!! P.

  • It’s pretty amazing that they are able to combine that many wrappers together without them coming apart at the edges.

  • BCamara

I honestly thought this cigar was photoshopped lol or at the very least dyed. God bless ‘Merica!

  • eric.hanson

I’ve seen the adds for this one and thought it looked cool, but wasn’t sure how it would perform since it’s so many different wrappers applied. After hearing this review I’m not sure his one would be for me, though I might pick one up just because it is such an interesting looking stick and some of the money goes to a good cause.

  • MaxDuo

I like how these mixed wrapper cigars are constantly changing in taste. It’s a bit gaudy perhaps… but I still feel like I’d like 1 or 2 in my humidor as decoration, and would like to smoke 1 or 2 at some point with friends.

Though of course the strength kick at the end wouldn’t be the best for me.

Also nice that they have that donation thing going on too.

  • MarkAnon

I must admit that the cigar looked gimmicky but surprisingly sounds very nice. Sounds like it has a lot of complexity. It looks like a work of art. Also, I’m definitely with you – full strength cigars can be too much. Flavor is where it’s at!

  • geekfish

Thanks for the review. I would dismiss as a gimmick right away without your review. Now I might considered it. I do see this in the advertising on the left of the site. As always I am glad you don’t let that influence reviews. I respect that.

  • weimerad

    Ill pass

  • stevenknisley

This cigar seems interesting and I want to try it. not too excited about the strength

  • dbfr181

    Sweet looking stick!

  • capital75757

It is nice that by just buying the cigar you help with a worthy cause. Great review!

  • smokethis

That was one bad-azz cigar ..hoorah.

  • garlar10

Cool looking cigar although not quite the flavor profile I am looking for.

  • stevesatch

    Seems like a gimmick.

    • MaxDuo

It… kind of is. But that’s also due to the fact that it is also something that supports the armed forces!

It doesn’t seem like a bad gimmick, Bryan makes it sound like a pretty interesting stick. I’ve always loved this multi wrapper ciggars for the fact that the flavor profile changes nonstop. I fully expected this to be an awful dud with the worst construction ever and it seems pretty decent.

So yeah… It IS a gimmick… but not in the “dumb crappy gimmick garbage” way.
