Punch Uppercut Robusto Cigar Review

This 5.2×50 stick features a dark brown, slightly oily and firm wrapper with small veins, tight seams, double cap and rich sweet pepper and tobacco aroma. First light reveals a snug draw with good medium bodied smoke output showing flavors of a damp musty earth and a short clean finish. The first third opens the draw slightly to a perfect level putting off very good amounts of smoke. Flavors add a meaty savoriness with a thicker mouth feel, staying at a medium body but making the finish longer with an almost metallic pepper and spice zing. Hitting the 1/2 way point at 30 minutes, the ash holds on for the first third, performance and construction is great and flavors are about the same just pulling the savory bits through the longer finish. Ending at 1:15 the last third brought up a deep smooth earth to the mix and dropped all the pepper zing and spice.

Yeah, you’re supposed to smoke until the flavors turn to charred flesh. lol I was just checking today to see if you had reviewed this stick, so thanks.

    • Dylan

      so THAT’S what that flavor is… hmmm…
serious though, haven’t had a punch yet. I guess it’s time to try! thanks Bryan!

      • drewmcneice

Hopefully they live up to the hype

        • Boucher207

My favorite Punch is the Rare Corojo, amazing stick.

  • TimB

Another good smoke from Punch fine review.

  • stevenknisley

I have heard a lot of good things about this cigar and have really been wanting to try it. If I can found this at my local shop I just might get one. Great review.

    • drewmcneice

That’s the problem, unless your “local shop” is a good one, certain cigars I want to try I can’t find

  • dgrambo

Ive found this to be a strong example of the Ometepe component. Its unique flavor is distinct and identifiable. I also found these to have a sneaky strength component, especially in the larger sizes. The most interesting Punch in the world. Well, north of Miami, anyway.

  • Daniel.A

had this cigar in a 5 pack sampler forgot the exact cigars but i know this one was in there. definitely enjoyed it. i remember there was two gloria cubanas one was a serie n and the other was nothing i seen before it had half habano and half connecticut or something. one macanudo forgot which one and i can’t remember the rest. but i liked the little sampler box.

  • rgmenke

I want to try the Bareknuckle first but this one sounds good as well.

  • garlar10

Great review. I have had a few punch cigars before and none of them were anything special. This one sounds interesting though. Hope to try one of these soon!

  • Andrew

When you describe a bite, you are referring to the bite you’d get if you bit into a pepper flake, not a bitterness correct?

  • Jason Isbaner

Good review, not sure about this one.

  • superdutyal

Yup another great review . I really like the way you say its a personal thing .

  • dbfr181

Nice review. Haven’t had a punch yet ill be on the lookout for some.

  • yosef5

I had the Punch Bareknuckle. &Vintage. The Vintage did not have much taste.I enjoyed the Bareknuckle

  • yosef5

Thanks Another cigar that I want to smoke

  • Tommz81

Looking forward to this cigar being reviewed. Sounds good. I like punch cigars but my online retailer doesn’t sell anything but this one. Glad it’s worth a try

  • phillyb

    One of my favorite brands.

  • vscarpine

I enjoyed the Punch Bareknuckle so I will be looking for this one

  • jpculp57

I can’t say I’ve ever experienced a stick with a meaty savory flavor. Sounds interesting. I keep debating on buying one of these so I think I might now. As for when I stop smoking a cigar, it depends on when I taste that bitter, hot flavor. I’ve only ever nubbed a few sticks because like you, I don’t enjoy that hot, mushy, conglomerate of tasteless tobacco. My one buddy nubs all his sticks, but that’s just his preference.

  • seanking4

I walk by the shelves with Punch cigars on it every time I go to buy cigars. I think I’ll give one a shot sometime.

  • CigarStrawn

I’ve been wanting to pick up an uppercut. I have a few After Dinners in my humidor that have been sitting for about a year. I think I’ll smoke one of those soon.

  • eric.hanson

I had one of these in Toro about a year ago and was really impressed by it. Good review.

  • MorganGeo

Sounds like some flavors I would enjoy.

  • Pokesfan

I think I would enjoy this one as well. Just a note, I usually stop at the band. Just my preference…

  • pato1001

This sounds like a really great cigar. I will most definitely have to give this a try!

  • weimerad

    Very underrated cigar

  • brineil

I’ve experimented with retaining good taste toward the nub. I start purging below the band and take shorter “sips.” It seems to help with gars that taste so good I don’t wanna quit. What say ye?

  • smokethis

Nice review. That bottom label is cool.

  • thewolf66

How does this compare to the Punch Bareknuckle I really like that stick.

    Nice review by the way

  • BCamara

With a name like Uppercut I was expecting more of a pepper kick. But the flavors sound good, I’ve been thinking of picking this one up.

  • TheSmokingGunman

Awesome review Bryan. Metallic pepper? Meaty savoriness? Sounds like steak. I’ve never been a big Punch fan but this one sounds like its worth picking up for a test drive.

  • Romel

Sounds like a good stick to me. I’ve only tried the regular punch stick. Added this one to my to smoke list!

  • david121

Not sure if the metallic taste you describe sounds good or not.. guess there’s really only one way to find out lol
    thanks for another great review!

  • rockjock

I smoke cigars as long as the taste is good. Where that stops seems to very from cigar to cigar.

  • curtpick

Was curious about this and now I know ! I do like the bareknuckle if you get the opportunity ! Thanks again Bryan !

  • Craig

I’m not certain I would like the “metalic” tones of this one. Otherwise it sounds good. I can’t say as I’ve ever experienced anything quite like that.

  • drewmcneice

Never had a punch, my buddy loves them

  • zzpop102

I love the color of the wrapper!! I really want to try one of these. Looks like another quality stick from Punch.

  • ctigers15

Nice review, It’s a goo looking cigar, but the flavors don’t suit me.

  • mufdvr6976

nice review bryan, had this with a jack and coke and it paired well!!

  • MaxDuo

Sounds like an interesting stick. The savoryness at the middle gets my attention as something I’d like to try. Not really a “must have” but I’d definitely try it if it showed up at the local shop or if I saw it in a sampler it would make me more interested in trying that sampler out!

Thanks for the usual great review, Bryan 🙂

  • wcfennell

Doesn’t sound like a bad smoke but for some reason I just can’t get myself to buy a punch. I guess it’s just the stupid name that’s putting me off, probably the same reason I refuse to smoke a diesel.

  • yosef5

The bareknuckle was a very good smoke
    Now this one to smoke
    Thanks

  • LordCybor

These are not bad. But out of the punch cigars I have had, the bareknuckle is the best!
