Press Release: Zino Platinum “The Make of New York” Collector’s Edition

by Bryan Glynn, May 2, 2013

Zino Platinum reunites with Urban Artists UR New York to produce
“The Make of New York” Collector’s Edition

Pinellas Park, FL – May 1, 2013. A brand with roots deep in self-expression, that’s pushed the limits of the cigar industry. Zino Platinum recognizes that same disruptive innovation of a city that’s constantly redefining the culture that surrounds it.

Following the global success of the first limited edition, launched in 2012 for the ten-year anniversary of Zino Platinum, the brand has produced its second premium cigar collector’s edition set of four custom art boxes in collaboration with urban artists UR New York. Zino Platinum is heading back home to its original stomping grounds with a release suitably dubbed “The Make of New York” – this collector’s edition celebrates four pillars of self-expression in the greatest city of the world for challenging the status quo and disruptive innovation – NEW YORK CITY.

Zino Platinum has teamed up again with the illustrious UR New York—an urban artist collective who have redefined themselves and the landscape that surrounds them—to help capture the same maverick spirit of Zino Platinum. Brooklyn based, Mike Baca aka 2ESAE and Fernando Romero aka SKI originally joined forces with the goal of transforming the perception of street art and have become successful international artists. The dynamic New York duo went to work on the collector’s edition Zino Platinum boxes with the same passion and artistry that brought them success in their professional art career.
This limited release of only 750 sets of 4 boxes will appear on retailer’s shelves on May 15th with a kick off event in New York City, supported by an eight week east coast US Tour featuring the ZP Mobile Lounge. “This special collector’s edition perfectly illustrates what Zino Platinum represents, self-expression. New York is a city that inspires self-expression like no other and we are thrilled to pay homage with this limited edition cigar to the pioneers thatcontinue to disrupt the status quo.“ states Scott Kolesaire, Zino Platinum Brand Manager.

these look cool but a bit pricey.

    • yosef5

      Much money

    • drewmcneice

Ya I don’t know if I’d spend that much honestly

  • LordCybor

The price! Ouch! It is a nice looking collectors piece though.

    • gtclark

I’m sure the cigars are fine, but you’re really buying the box with these things

      • LordCybor

The price is the same if you buy it single as well. $16 per cigar! Ouch! So you might as well buy the box and have something left for a keepsake. …lol

    • MaxDuo

I agree. I can’t afford it…. but it would be something great to have as a decoration (the box, not the cigars of course).

  • Jason Isbaner

I agree ouch on the price!

  • vscarpine

The boxes look pretty cool but the price point will scare many, including me, away from these

  • TimB

Yeah nice collectors box but no thanks for the price.

  • SteakW

I really, really like the Zino Classic but this is pricey. And the Classic has great wood flavors which I enjoy. This would be nice but…unlikely as it’s limited release.

  • jpculp57

Zino’s are always overpriced and under-flavored. They’re a “status” symbol like Davidoff. I’ve yet to smoke a Davidoff that was anywhere near worth the SRP. Cool packaging on these, but still overpriced.

  • Mr Rojas

Looks cool especially since I’m a big fan of urban art, and in fact, I’m an urban artist myself!

  • Sinsandman

Sweet looking box…bad looking price, yikes.

  • dbfr181

Box looks sweet !! Stick are up there in price..

  • garlar10

I dont usually associate cigars with new york but these look interesting.

    • lostonmonday

NY was once one of the world’s top cigar producers. Whoda’ thunk, huh?

  • http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100000529939931 Chris Tivnan

Yeah the box does look pretty cool

  • seanking4

I’ve only had one Zino and it was at my rich uncles BBQ. I loved it. Maybe he’ll have one of these next time I’m there. Fingers crossed.

  • danzig777

Box looks cool, but the price is too high for me.

  • rgmenke

Too many good cigars out there unless the big man smokes it and declares the Z a winner.

  • Daniel.A

um definitely want one but im not sure if i would pay 16 dollars.

  • http://www.martincigars.blogspot.com NMartin

Looks like a box I’d buy if I won it big at BINGO. If someone gets a chance to try them, let us know…(And maybe send one to Bryan for a review *hint hint* )

  • swj045

the price would be alright if the cigars are that great, but I dont need a collectors box.Im in it for fine cigars not art work.

  • Tommz81

$16 a pop will be a hard sell.

    • Craig

I agree. At $16 a pop, I’d almost always go for a Padron !! Not sure this one compares to the Padron Series.

      • zzpop102

I agree. There are so many other cigars I would rather spend $16 on.

  • rockjock

I like the box. Like other Zino’s they are pretty pricey.

  • CigarStrawn

Speaking of New York has anyone else heard that the state wants to raise the smoking age to 21?

    • LordCybor

Yeah, I find that so ignorant coming from the government that will ship you off to war at the age of 18. You can not drink alcohol or buy a pistol in this country at 18 but, you can go to foreign lands and kill and possibly die for the country. Contradictive at best!

  • curtpick

The Zino original didn’t impress me much. These look more “hype” than anything. But if they decided to send me a sample I would reconsider buying some ! 😉

  • weimerad

    Cool packaging

    • smokethis

      Yes very cool packaging.

  • Chris

Does this brand typically retail at SRP? $16 is high, but if they follow typical SRP gimmicks, they’ll be more like $10. Still high, but not as crazy.

  • zzpop102

These look to gimmicky to me. They probably cost $16 each because they spent so much money on packaging.

  • drewmcneice

    That’s a funky lookin’ band

  • Camshaft83

I’m with everyone else on this one. The box looks awesome and the smokes sound good but the price is way too high for me. Which sucks because I would like to try one but there are ones I know I like for the same price or just I bit cheaper.

  • jablaze

all zino and davidoffs are high priced for a milder stick, but i still think they are some of the best, and i love the artwork on these boxes. I<3NY
