Iconic Leaf Recluse Draconian Parejo Cigar Review

This 5×50 pre-release stick features a thin, dark brown mottled wrapper with minimal veins, tight seams, very light pack, triple cap, slightly oily velvet feel and very pronounced sweet hay aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw with plentiful full bodied smoke output showing a sweet earth and spice on the draw followed by a long, oily heat through the finish adding a pepper flavor without the zing. The first third comes down to medium-full body keeping the same profile while adding a cinnamon to the draw and the finish stays long with a sweet pepper and spice blast. 30 minutes in at the 1/2 way point, the spice and pepper die way down and a thick smooth creaminess joins in just on the draw while body continues to mellow to a medium. Ending with an inch left, the last third remains consistent. Thank you Iconic Leaf for sending these in for review!

  • Sounds like an interesting stick. I can honestly say I’ve never heard of this particular brand. Will look for them in the future.

  • JJO

So this was worth the postage due? lol I’ve been hearing good things about this brand. Hope I can find some around here soon.

  • ljarvis524

This shirt takes a beating if it’s the same one you wore while working on the boat today. Whole bunch of fancy smells going on.

    • It did occur to you, this was filmed ahead of time, no? LOL

      • Bryan I thought all of your videos were live PPV events? Like Wrestlemania.

        • Llllllllllets get ready to herrrrrrrffffff!

  • garlar10

Just checked out the iconic leaf website, looks like they have a couple of unique size/shapes for their cigars. Look forward to seeing reviews for those and if they have any different flavor profiles.

  • smokethis

Spice and cinnamon sounds mighty good. Ty for the review.

    • MaxDuo

Same here, haven’t had a cigar with a spice flavor in a while somehow. Definitely sounds like one to look forward to!

  • cassanpj

Am very interested in this cigar. Just had a Recluse the other day and thought it was fantastic! Lots of chocolate flavors.

  • mrl4889

Never heard of this brand but they are officially on my radar and I’ll see if I can’t get some of these bad boys when they come out. Seems to be right up my alley

  • Kace

I also check out your other review on iconic leaf. They both sound tasty. Was just wondering, is 5X50 the official size? This one looked a lil bigger than 50. 50 gauge is about my limit

    • JJO

Their press release just says robusto, toro, and 6×60. I doesn’t specify snything about the sizes other than the gordo. The finished shape is supposed to be box-pressed, though, so the ring gauge shouldn’t be a problem for you. The general release is set for IPCPR in July, but a few stores are slated to get an early release. Also in the line are three shapes called Sidewinder, which are supposedly unique, but won’t be revealed until IPCPR.

      • Kace

Nice!! Thanks for relaying all of that info.

  • Derek

Definitely going to have to get one of these.

  • D-Pap

Bryan, did they tell you what the cigar contents were? Wrapper, binder, etc?

    • Dale

      According to the press release…
      Wrapper: Ecuadorian Maduro
      Binder: Proprietary
      Fillers: Brazilian Hybrid
      Piloto Cubano
      Dominican
Iconic Leaf Ligero* (leaf developed and exclusive to Tabacalera Leyendas Cubanas)*

      • gtclark

Is it normal to keep the binder a proprietary secret?

        • D-Pap

I don’t like when companies fail to tell you what’s in a product for “proprietary” reasons. Ingredients don’t give away your company secrets. There are many other factors that go into making a grear cigar, that is very difficult to replicate. Would you buy a burger from a restaurant that says the ingredients of their ground meat is proprietary?

          • gtclark

I guess they feel the binder is their “secret sauce”.

      • puffrey

Oh my, the words Ecuadorian, maduro, and Brazilian Hybrid get me all kinds of fired up to fire one of these up!

        Release the Recluse ASAP!

  • rockjock

Not normally be a brand that I would seek out but sounds like a pretty good smoke. I am always amazed at the variety cigar makers can turn out.

  • MorganGeo

Sounds like a flavor profile that I would like. I will have to keep a lookout for these?

  • yosef5

Sounds good Do they bigger sticks?

  • gumby_130

    Will look for this one.

  • chief791

This one sounds right up my ally. I love pepper and spicy cigars.

  • eric.hanson

Never heard of these before, is this going to be a B&M only brand, or will these be available online. Hopefully the picked up a new scale.

  • stevenknisley

I want this stick. it sounds really good.
    Great review.

  • swj045

not a big fan of pepper, but the cinnomon sounds good.

  • kurngar

Definitely will keep an eye out for this one.

  • CigarButcher

    looking forward to the release.

  • Andrew

What’s the difference between “zing” and spice/heat?

    • neocigaro

Spice is like pepper spicy you feel it in your tongue. Zing is like cough cough cough don’t want this in my mouth, very strong smoke. But on the zing part i might be a little off haha

    • Zing is the physical sensation. The tingle.

      • gtclark

Ok, I’ve got another one for you – what do you mean by “chewy smoke”? It doesn’t always seem to be related to smoke volume – is it a particular kind of mouth-feel?

        • Yes – thick and chewy feel. I go through a ton of questions like this in the Answering Viewer Questions series, on the left…

          • gtclark

Thanks! I’ll give it a view!

  • Magicshark13

Why does it not have a band on it?

    • Derek

Its a pre-release (not on the market yet).

      • Magicshark13

        Oh I gotcha thanks!

  • Pjhosler

Boy this review has me excited. Flavor profile flies right down my alley another cigar to be anxious for. It never stops for us fellas, always a new great smoke around the corner

  • Pokesfan

Interesting. The flavors of this one make me want to go out and get one when it’s available. I like the cinnamon.

  • MR_EXPRESS

Sounds good. I’ll be on the lookout for this one.

  • derek_straus

I have not had a Iconic Leaf yet, but this one sound good to me. I will have to be on the lookout for them in the next couple of months!

Also will this have a band or is it going to be a naked cigar?

  • RyanG

I’ve never seen any of the Iconic Leaf sticks in local shops. I’ll probably have to order a 5 pack online.

  • Lalla

I didn’t see any listing for online distributors… but it seems I’m fortunate. Of the three B&Ms listed for Texas, one is right around the corner from me.

  • Chaz

Wow- a flavor profile like that usually results in some strength kick. I can’t wait to pick these up when they come out- for those times when I want those flavors without the power.

  • ctigers15

Good review, I’ll give one a try when they come out.

  • Dirk

I am curious as to the pre release aging process.. are they “respasado” in some humidor somewhere prior to them being shipped to you.. or do you rest them from a couple weeks prior to a review. Thanks

  • vscarpine

I like the old school look of this cigar reminds me of what the cigars looked like my grandpa used to smoke haha. But this sound like a good cigar the pepper and spice sound good

  • 2dogdad

Sounds interesting. Anyone have any info on proposed price point? Bryan, thanks again for your fine and informative submissions. Regards, paul.

  • USA2ndAmendment

I am guessing, because it is a pre-release, that is why there is no band on this cigar?

  • JHylk717

Sounds like a great stick, I really enjoy those types of flavor profiles, the only thing it needs is a nice shiny band!

  • Freddy62

I didn’t think it was going to fit into my flavor profile that I prefer based off of the first light, often times they can be very deceiving though! Sounds like a great stick can’t wait for it to come out!

  • Gaminghalb

    Great review Brian.

Do you think the flavors might change from now and the release date due to aging and storage?

    • I highly doubt you would taste anything significant. Big changes take place before it’s rolled.

      • Gaminghalb

Nice. Thanks Brian for the quick response. I will definitely be picking it up. I loved the recluse.

  • david121

Sounds like a good stick. I’m not a huge fan of spiciness but I think even if I end up not liking that part, I’ll have the creaminess to look forward to!
    Great review as always Bryan

  • morpi167

Oh to be a reviewer and get to try newer sticks haha. This one definitely sounds interesting I really love cigars with cinnamon flavor in it. I’ll have to pick one up!

  • weimerad

If its anything like the original Recluse toro, I’m sure I’ll like this cigar.

  • Hell yeah! This stick sounds right up my alley, have been seeing more and more press about this as of late, thanks for reviewing it…need to seek these out now.

  • Cliff

This sounds like my kind of cigar. Will have to try one when they come out.

  • stogiemalt

I saw your IPCPR booth tour video then watched your reviews. These cigars have definitely caught my eye…do you happen to know where I can find them online? I’ve searched all the big sites with no luck so far. According to Iconic Cigars website “retail locator” the nearest B&M is a couple hundred miles from me. Thanks

    • JJO

      Try Charmed Leaf.

      • stogiemalt

        Found ’em, thank you sir

        • JJO

          De nada! 🙂
