Rocky Patel 1961 Robusto Cigar Review

This 5×50 stick features a dark chocolate colored wrapper with a firm dry toothy feel, minimal veins, tight invisible seams, double cap and faint hay aroma. First light reveals a tight draw but great smoke output showing medium bodied flavors of a slight sweet earth and wood, with a heavy oily wood and spice finish. The first third opens with a slightly sweet earth followed by a rough pepper and spice lingering through the finish. The ash hold son cleanly to the 1/2 way point, at which flavors remain pretty consistent, just dropping most of the pepper and spice shifting to a very smooth creamy texture all the way through, holding the core of the medium bodied earth. Ending at 50 minutes the stick burned quickly but very well with perfect performance, staying consistent through the last third. Thank you very much to viewer ‘goldendd’ for sending this in for review, I really appreciate it!

Great review. Bryan, have you heard of the Rocky Patel Evolution?

  • cigarraider

Wondering about the Evolution myself. One of few RP’s I can afford for everyday but it has mixed reviews online. What’s your take Bryan?

    • JJO

I haven’t tried it, but most of the reviews I’ve read point to terrible burn issues. While have enjoyed some of the RPs, I have yet to find one that I would want to keep on a constant basis, but I still have about 2,000 more of his lines to try. ;) In fact, I was just gifted an Edge Habano and a Freedom, and am looking forward to trying them.

      • puffrey

I just had the Edge Habano yesterday and it was decent. Nothing mind blowing as far as complexities, just a good rich, somewhat spicy kind of stick. Mild in strength.

  • mattdevilsfan

rocky is my favorite and i love this cigar i wish he would make more

    • NMartin

I dig Rocky as well as his cigars. Great businessman. My dad met and hung out with him for a bit last time he was in NC. He said he was quite a trip.
This cigar looks right up my alley, I’d like to try it soon.

  • undergroundboxr

I loved the review! very interesting, I think I would like this however I do prefer sweeter cigars. And just a quick weird question. Are you sitting down while recording your videos or standing xD I told you it was a weird question. but I just had to ask.

  • Magicshark13

Rocky P. Edge is my favorite cigar of his collection. Great Review.

    • USA2ndAmendment

I like the Thunder By Nimish! The Edge was good also!

  • kurngar

I Have smoked this stick several different times and always enjoyed it. This is about the only RP I smoke consistently.

  • Bpope31

I really enjoyed the edge light. It was one of my first cigars and great for a beginner. I stayed lit the entire time even as I was being distracted for minutes at a time. Probably a good golf cigar I would imagine.

  • macko

I have one of these chilling in the humi sounds like a good one to smoke up. thanks

  • Dylan

I’ve always wanted to try this stick! Now I know I have to try it. I’ve had the Edge Maduro, but that’s the only RP I’ve ever tasted.

  • BBEJ4321

I have had a few R.P. cigar. I, not a fan yet. Guess I’ll have to try this one. Sounds good.

  • macko

smoked mine up tonight after reading and watching the reveiw I had to very much enjoyed it..

  • Dirk

I am a big Rocky fan.. a friend gave me one of this sticks. I let it rest and fired it up last Sunday.. Interesting, love the Decade as well as the Vintage 1990 and 92.. rich flavors many transitions. I found this stick to burn hot and although spicy, it quickly washed out about the massive label and became a mix of grassy hickory.. and pepper.. great burn.. and lasted about 1 hour 15 minutes.. great review as usual.

  • D-BO

I’M NOT A FAN OF ROCKY PATEL, BUT BECAUSE OF THE REVIEW I MUST TRY ONE.

  • stevenknisley

I want to try one of these. I think the band looks cool and this review makes the cigar sound good too.

  • MR_EXPRESS

Ooh, I gotta pick me up one of these. I like RP’s sticks. Not too much, not too little.

  • garlar10

I will have to pick one of these up next time I am at my local B&M. The label isn’t as pretty as most rocky’s but you can’t judge a book by its cover I guess. I do really enjoy the Olde World Maduro and the Sun Grown by Rocky Patel so I hope i will like this one as well.

  • Freddy62

Excellent review Bryan! I like this stick, it has the perfect amount of sweetness that is not to overwhelming which makes it delicious!

  • vscarpine

Ive never tried a RP cause I never found one that applied to me…until now got to pick one of these up and try it out

  • Bpope31

Sounds a little spicy for me. But I love RP so maybe ill give it a try anyway.

  • puffrey

I do enjoy most of RP’s stuff, the only one that I didn’t really enjoy was the Private Cellar.
This stick sounds about what I would expect out of a decent Nicaraguan.
    Great review Bryan!

  • SLCigarClassy101

Man, The Famous Smoke Shop’s website has a great deal for this stick. I’ll have to get it sometime, I always love trying out RP cigars.

  • Griff

Still trying to find a RP that I like. I have a Decade resting in the humidor and Now I may have to give one of these a try.

  • jaburt10

I’ve never had an of the Rocky Patel cigars. I like your review of this one and I’ll probably try it in the near future. What other Rocky Patel Cigars would you recommend for some one who like more of a full-bodied smoke?
