Gurkha 125th Anniversary Edition Rothchild Cigar Review

This 6×54 stick features a dark tan dry slightly toothy wrapper with minimal veins, tight seams, triple cap, firm even pack and rich earth and hay aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw with tons of thick, rich full bodied smoke output showing flavors of a zingy but smooth, substantial sweet earth with an oily finish leaving quite a heat on the lips. The first third develops very similarly, dropping down the spice kick a bit and bringing a little of a bread like taste just on the draw. Hitting the 1/2 way point 45 minutes in, the 2nd third changes up dropping the earth for a straight tobacco and slight woodiness, also dropping the sweetness and most of the spice leaving just a smooth plain tobacco finish. Construction is flawless. Hitting the band 55 minutes in flavors drop to pretty much just a plain tobacco and down to medium-full body. Ending at 1:20 the rest of the cigar was the same. Thank you very much to Gurkha for sending this in for review!

    As always, excellent review!

  • So, how would you rate it against something like the Royal Challenge? Could you compare it to another Gurkha?

    • It compares to many of the plainer cigars out there, yes quite like the RC as well.

      • Thanks for your insight. I have been smoking cigars for over a decade and still have not developed a pallate like yours!

i never had a complex gurkha. i prolly smoked 15-20 different lines and have never been blown away, and some of there stuff is really pricey.

This is my Fav review. My wife gave me a sample pack of 6 of the Gurkha and I like to match my tast with yours. Love the reviews.

I bought a Gurkha Vintage Shaggy Foot yesterday and was wondering if any of you have smoked one before? If so please enlighten me on your experience.
I want to try one of these 125th anniversary Gurkhas they look good.

I smoked the robusto of this last night. It was lovely, IMO. Medium strength, sweet notes, spice, pepper. It did have a loose draw (too loose, I’d say) and need to be relit 2x. The last 1.5″ got a little too hot for me, but I really liked it and would buy it again.

I had this smoke yesterday evening, and it was very plain and peppery. I didn’t have very good luck with an even burn, but no re-lights it would fix itself after a minute or two.
