Antonio Benitez Robusto Maduro Cigar Review

This 5×50 stick features a very dark brown firm mottled wrapper with a dry smooth texture, medium veins, tight seams, triple cap and rich hay and chocolate aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw with huge amounts of thick rich smoke giving medium-full body flavors of a deep dark slightly bitter espresso and a very long smooth finish of the same. The first third continues along the same path just adding a little creaminess to the start of the draw. Hitting the 1/2 way point 30 minutes in, the ash drops off cleanly, body is up to full with a little added strength and the flavors have gone more to the creamy coffee side. Ending at 1 hour to the nub where it got too warm for my taste, the last third showed no further changes. Thank you to P Benitez Cigars for giving this to me at the 2012 IPCPR show!

I have really been impressed with the Benitez cigars I have had. I’ve had the Antonio Benitez Edicion Especiale, which I believe is a slightly tweaked version of this one, and your take on this one is pretty much what I got. Very rich and smooth, with great construction. Reynold really has a winner in the Antonio.

  • Richhart

Sounds like a cigar I will have to try !
Who sells them Bryan ? Any of the Internet retailers?

    • I don’t know, you’ll have to ask them directly – link above 🙂

    • JJO

Richhart – Charmed Leaf and Mike’s Cigars are the only internet retailers that I know of.

  • Kace

I noticed you smoked that one down pretty low. Was it really that good or is the warm smoke a sign for you to stop smoking?

  • Boucher207

Ill have to check around and see if i cant find one of these, your review was great!

    • JJO

Boucher207 – I think these have been discontinued in favor of the newer Edicion Especial, which are great. I’m particularly fond of the corona and robusto. If you can’t find them locally (I can’t either), check out Charmed Leaf or Mike’s Cigars online or contact Reynold Benitez, reynold@pbenitezcigars.com to see if they are available nearby. B&M distribution seems to be somewhat limited outside of Florida.

  • zanlamb

Am I right in thinking Florida has about the best distribution?

    • zanlamb

      of cigars obviously

    • JJO

The tradition, proximity to the source, and favorable tax structure undoubtedly make it the best place to be for cigars.
