Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros Liso Cigar Review

This 7×49 stick features a dark brown very firm and rough wrapper with small veins, tight seams, an oily rock hard feel, double cap and peppery wood aroma. First light reveals a snug draw with adequate smoke output giving medium-full thick creamy textured sweet wood flavors, with a long finish of the same. The first third continues the same flavors but adds a rich tobacco under the wood, coming out a little more on the finish as the wood subsides a bit. Burn is razor sharp, the draw loosened up a bit and it’s burning quite slowly. 40 minutes in at the 1/2 way point the ash holds on in third chuncks, construction is perfect and flavors remain consistent. Ending at 1:30 the last third showed no changes. Thank you very much to Hoyo de Monterrey for sending this for review!

Sounds like a great cigar. Im a fan of woody flavors. If it was me I would let the box sit and age for as long as I could stand it.

  • CigarStrawn

That display box would make an awesome prize for a contest. That’s what I’m thinking.

  • griz

    hey bryan!
how about a tour of your humidor(s) video?
I’m interested to see your stash

    • ryanmo45

      that would be awesome!

    • JJO

He addressed this in his “Answering Viewer Questions” video. Everyone should watch this so he doesn’t have to keep answering the same questions over and over. 😉

Happy 4th to Bryan and everyone else!

    • Eyeluvwied

He’s said in a previous video that he doesn’t want to go through his humidor cause he feels that it’s bragging. I am curious as to what he’s got stored up though.

  • PeteM

This is one of my new favorites! The first one I had was the “robusto” size along with a McDonald’s iced coffee. It was possibly the best smoke/beverage combo I’ve found so far!

Bryan- what are your thoughts on “purging” to expel extra gases that build up in the stick as it’s smoked?

    Happy 4th!

    Pete

    • My thoughts would be – that’s a solution to a non-existent problem 😉

      • PeteM

I take that as indication that you don’t find the need to “purge” 🙂

It seems to me to be the solution to overheating/smoking too fast. I will say that the more experience I gain and get better at adjusting to each individual stick, the cooler and more flavorful it stays.

        Thanks again!

Btw-the password reset function doesn’t seem to be working.

I’ve never seen an aging process like that. Very cool. I would say the display box would make an incredible prize, unopened.

  • cigarhobby85

I would break the box open and raffle off the cigars

  • JJO

It’s a cool box for display purposes, but I’m not sure that they ever intended for these to be smoked. Whether you decide to keep it or give it away, I think it should be kept intact to maintain its value as a collectible.

    • I already confirmed with General it can be unsealed and they are ready to smoke anytime.

      • JJO

Well then, I think you should either give it
away as one big prize, or keep it and have a nice big party. 🙂

  • kb9311

That looks like an awesome box and great cigar, thanks for the review!

  • derek_straus

That box would make for a great prize for another photo contest if you ask me.

  • James

Just got my box that i won in the giveaway today. Can’t wait to try one! 🙂

    Hi Bryan,
Love your reviews. Just wondering though did you do this review early morning. I noticed the torches burning and it was dark in the beginning, then at the end it was light out and the torches were out.

    • That would be how dawn works, heeeeers yur sign 😉

      • hfde25b

Cool, It just caught me by surprise that you would do reviews so early in the morning, that’s what I call dedication! Thanks again.

  • Justin

Bryan I just smoked this after receiving it as a bonus in an order I placed with CI. A mixed review, first half was awesome, then suddenly went out…hot and bitter after the relight. It,s too bad, because I was already looking to order more when it turned on me.

On a different note, when I watch your view on my tablet, they either auto jump to YouTube, or play the view embedded on your site (plays from your site every time when using my laptop). The view playing on YouTube are unbearably slow and choppy, but never on your site…..don’t know what the deal is, but thought you might want to know.

    • Justin

      Dang auto-correct….view=vids

    • It has nothing to do with me or any other site you watch from – it’s all about the device and app you are viewing on. YouTube is unwatchable quite a bit on my tablet or phone as well, just the way it goes. Hopefully YouTube will improve things.

      • Justin

OK, just don’t know why sometimes it jumps to YouTube and sometimes not…I’ll keep watching either way as you are the best!

  • Johnnycatt

good cigar i really enjoyed the flavors

  • stevenknisley

I love these cigars. Thought display is really cool. Great review

  • Boucher207

Just picked one up, letting it sit in my Humidor for a few weeks at 70% to let it rest a bit, they always taste better after. 🙂 haha
