Gurkha Royal Challenge Robusto Cigar Review

This 5×50 cigar features a smooth tan wrapper with minimal veins, tight seams, double cap, soft even firm pack and faint hay and grass aroma.  First light reveals a perfect draw and good thick smoke output, giving a mild-medium smoke of a silky smooth dry tobacco and slightly bitter grass, lasting long in to the finish. The first third develops to a creamy soft tobacco with a smooth but deep long finish. Still mild-medium, dropping the bitter grass it’s burning very well with a perfect draw and almost razor sharp burn. 45 minutes in just past the 1/2 way point flavors have shifted to a medium bodied smooth slightly sweet and creamy coffee, with a silky oily long finish and perfect construction. Ending at 1:10 min the last third needed a relight after the 2nd third ash dropped off but otherwise smoked fine. Flavors shifted away from the sweetness and coffee just going to a deep wood and tobacco with a heavy aftertaste. Thank you very much to Gurkha Cigars for generously sending this in for review!

Looks good I’ll have to try it!

That does look tasty. May I be the newbie and ask why you mention the presence of veins on the cigars? What importance do they play in the construction? Thanks so much.

    • Veins if prominent enough can effect burn quality.

never had any gurhka products. i hear they are real hit and miss. what is your favorite gurhka? i trust your advice, i have just about the same experiance on most of your reviews, so i trust your recommendations. price isn’t much of a issue, here in Minnesota. Our taxes are outrageous. I usually go to wisconsin to buy my sticks cause there tax is much less. for example, padron 1964 in MN $18.00, same cigar in WISC 13.50. I live about 20 miles from the border so i stock up and save at least $75 each time i go. A 50 cent cigar seven years ago is now a 5.00 cigar. It’s VERY unreasonable.

Ive heard they are hit and miss but I havent picked up on that myself. If you enjoy cigars more on the mild side then grab a Gurkha Vulcan or Beauty, if you like a more full bodied stick go with the Gurkha spec ops.

Is this another one of Gurkha’s retail only cigars? If so that is really disappointing because these look so good and they do not have them at my local shop.

  • USA2ndAmendment

My local shop carries these and they are awesome. I highly recommend this cigar!

I cannot find these anywhere and I really want to try one of them. Anybody willing to help?
