Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Churchill Cigar Review

This 7×48 box pressed maduro cigar features a soft supple dark chocolate wrapper with minimal veins, tight invisible seams, slight tooth and oil sheen, triple cap and a buttery, pepper and tobacco aroma. First light reveals a perfect draw, plenty of rich smoke with medium bodied flavors of a sweet creamy tobacco with a long smooth finish. The first third provides the same rich flavors from the first light, continuing excellent construction and burn. 25 minutes in at the start of the 2nd third it transitions to a rich creamy pepper and coffee, with an oily medium-full smoke and long finish. The ash drops off in a solid chunk (all over my lap) and performance is perfect. 45 minutes in finishing the 2nd third, the coffee ramps up even more also adding a nice spicy compliment especially through the oily finish. Ending at 1:10 the last third showed no further changes.

I haven’t had many RP’s, but I found the robusto version of this one to be an enjoyable and relaxing smoke. Nice review.

Bryan, you mention personal smoke time. Have you thought about bringing on other reviewers so that you have a little more time to actually enjoy?

    • Again I’m not complaining. No I have no interest in being a hub or conglomeration site. Part of my nitche is 100% consistency.

Bryan, got tired of chasing cigars on my own.
Watch your reviews 100%. If you like em I try em. If you pan em I pass em. I have not been disappointed. I smoked my first cigar in 1958, so I’ve been through the legal, illegal and cigar boom years. Personally I think we have it better now than ever. Thank you very much.

I’m late to the party, but just wanted to say this was another great review!
As a side note, have you thought about doing a montage of all the times the ash falls on your lap? Just suggesting! 😀

Buy these as seconds! I’m a poor college student and its a great cheap way to get an AMAZING cigar.

I just found out that they sold all the RP line stuff as seconds yesterday from watching one of the reviews. I have a pack of RP Olde World Reserve Seconds on the way as we speak! I’m stoked!

I was anxious to smoke one of these, and boy was it a great smoke! Long but very pleasant, thx again Brian for your awesome reviews!

This was a pretty good smoke, but I was not nearly as impressed with this cigar as the rest of you guys. I had to relight it three times. Also, I did not experience the complex flavors that Bryan reports on and I was looking for them. It seemed quite ordinary to me. By no means was it a bad smoke, but I enjoyed the Flor de Las Antillas Robusto Sungrown much better. Just saying.

When these cigars first came out I remember them being marketed as having a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. But now for many years I noticed they switched to a Honduran Broadleaf. Does anybody else remember these changes? Thanks 🙂

Still one of my favorites. Great flavor with no head rush.
