Macanudo Cru Royale Robusto Cigar Review

This 5×50 cigar features a very dark chocolate wrapper with a slight red hue, oily firm feel, hard pack with a couple soft spots, small veins, ragged seams with some imperfections, double cap and a rich chocolate and barnyard aroma. First light reveals a very smokey foot smoke, medium body flavors of a deep oily earth, slightly bitter with a short finish. The first third brings failry unique flavors out with a bread, slightly sweet meat and a bit of a twang that all very quickly fades to the short clean finish. Smoke isn’t especially thick or rich but there is plenty of it and the draw is perfect with an almost razor sharp burn. 30 minutes in at the 1/2 way point flavors shift just slightly bringing the sweetness up a notch with an almost licorice flavor but not very distinct. Ending at 1 hour with an inch remaining where it got too hot for my taste, the remainder of the stick showed no further changes. Construction has been perfect all the way down.

An enjoyable cigar. Thanks for the review. Nice job on Kish My Ash on Saturday. Glad that you are feeling better.

Good to see you back in action. I’ll have to pick up one of these the next time I hit the B&M.

I actually picked up a promotional back of these today. It include 2 free court sized cigars. I’m looking forward to smoking them. I like to leave them in the humi for at least a month before i burn em. Thanks for the review, i will share my thoughts about these and see if we come to the same conclusion. I believe your palate is very similar to mine based on the reviews i have watched and i have watched alot of em. Huge fan of flavor transitions as well.

I’m smoking this now in my backyard. I am experiencing similar flavors. It’s got a unique zing to it as you have mentioned.

Though it’s been awhile since I last had a Macanudo, the flavors I am getting out of it is unexpected.

Overall a good end to my day.

    Thanks for the review!

I love these cigars one of the first I ever smoked. I just ordered one the Macanudo ashtray things with the drawer for cigars with these in it. Great review.

  • I’m new to this form of smoking and figured it would be good bit of relaxation while I go through my divorce and the ending a near 20 year cigarette smoking habit, so I wanted to grab a small selection, choosing this as my robust example.

I enjoyed it, but would love a suggestion for something a little sweeter.

I bought a gift pack that came with 6 Macanudo Cru Royale Robustos in a wooden Macanudo ash tray. I loved them and the ash tray is pretty awesome too, it has a small drawer in it that I kept my cutter and matches in until I got a humidor with an accessory drawer. My dad used to smoke cigars, and Macanudos were his favorite brand.

I had one a couple weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to choose my cigars carefully since I only smoke about one a month. This was a good one.

Bryan….Since you really like Lancero/Panetela cigars, I’m wondering why you have not yet reviewed the Macanudo Cafe Portofino..a 7 x 34 stick.

Thanks as always for the review, Bryan. I have one of these from an original purchase sitting in the humidor. I’m definitely tending toward the Illusione, LFD, Herrera Esteli and San Cristobal lanceros these days, which means that I’m sitting on a number of “5 X 50” sized cigars from different companies. Kinda tough to turn to these as I’m not getting a lot of time to smoke these days, so when I do get some time I’d rather turn to a stick that I know I’m going to love. I have a three day weekend coming up, so maybe I’ll hit the Macanudo Royale earlier on one of the days. Thanks again for an informative review! God bless, brother.
