Pinar Del Rio 1878 Cubano Especial Robusto Cigar Review

This 5×52 stick offers a pig tail cap, a rich dark chocolate oily smooth wrapper with a strong barn and chocolate aroma. First light reveals a very smooth, rich and oily smoke with mild-medium bodied flavors of a slightly sweet tobacco. The 1st third produces medium bodied flavors of a rich, smooth aged tobacco with a slight general sweetness and very oily long finish. At the 1/2 way point, flavors remained the same, the ash fell off and the draw opened up to normal. Smoke output is good and the burn is perfect. 1 hour in to the band point, flavors shift slightly bringing a slight caramel and earth to the blend. Ending at 1:25 min, the last third proved to hold the same profile since the last transition.

I’ve only been enjoying cigars for a few months trying many of the sticks that you have reviewed seeing what appeals to me the most. This stick turned out to be my first box purchase. My other favorite is the Padron 1926, but this PDR suits my budget much better. I’m glad to see that you have enjoyed it as well.

After viewing all the great cigar art and now the review of the Pinar Del Rio 1878 Cubano Especial Robusto, I am going to have to find this cigar and give it a try. Thanks for the information.

Bought a couple of these along w/ some other PDR’s a week ago. Fired this up the 1878 Robusto a couple of days ago and I also noticed a snug draw. Good smoke and the construction and burn on this is great. I kinda wanted more flavors out of this tho’. Still good flavors… just wanted more of it…

I’m also gonna give the remainder of these a long rest in my humidor and see what happens.

Overall, I really like PDR’s. They are one of my favorite companies. High quality smokes @ really good price.
