Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Torpedo Cigar Review

This 6.25 by 52 maduro stick offers a virtually seamless satin wrapper with some small veins showing in darkened color only. Overall a dark chocolate color it gives off a rich oily slightly sweet tobacco aroma. First light reveals a full palate of complex flavors, requiring multiple draws to fully experience. They included deep earth, sweetness, smooth tobacco, nuts, slight pepper, cocoa, coffee and cream. The first third develops to a solid medium body, with tons of very smooth rich smoke output and a very easy draw. Flavors remain complex and very creamy in texture. By the 2nd third flavors had become more of the creamy cocoa, with undertones of a caramel and a deep oily finish. Ending at the 1:10 min mark, the stick proved to be the same flavor wise through the remainder, which was just fine with me! Thank you very much to Michael Yamashita for sending this sample in for review!

Love that stick.. Definately my go-to smoke. Can’t wait to watch the review (my work blocks you-tube!)

  • This is a great cigar. The 92′ is also very good. Nice videos Brian, they have helped a lot.

I just got free one of these in perfecto and I honestly don’t understand why anyone would want to smoke something in such an odd shape. It seriously looks like the foot is a nipple.

    • EzyE77

umm dude, how does the foot look like a nipple? I think you are backwards. That would be a big nipple my friend. If the shape is a problem for you, buy a different shape. I prefer the Toro.

      • JJO

I think you misread his comment. He’s talking about the perfecto shaped format of this cigar, which does have a nipple-type foot.

Steven – I’ve read that the nipple footed perfecto was popular in the early 20th century because it could be easily lit with a single match.

one of my fav’s. look forward to getting a nice box of these. so far i’ve never been disappointed with RP.

  • This cigar was my first box purchase. And I still have two that have been resting in the humidor for over a year. I can’t bring myself to smoke them yet.

    • jpculp57

Hope you smoked one by now. These are great sticks and very consistent. It’s tough to find a bad one.

I just frequented the Ohlone Cigar lounge in Fremont Ca as they were offering free cigar a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 and it was everything Bryan said in this review a fabulous cigar. One of Rocky’s sales reps was there and i had a good chat with him and he said Rocky is putting out at least 5 new blends this year but the downside is they are discontinuing some cigars as well.. the “Olde World Reserve” is one of them, so all those who like that cigar you better stock up on them now because next year their gone.

One of my favorite reviews of yours, Bryan. It was enjoyable to listen & watch, noticing how much you enjoyed this stick throughout the review. I’m going to buy a bundle of 2nds based on this review. Thanks Bryan
