Alec Bradley Tempus Imperator Torpedo Cigar Review

Posted on Saturday, April 11, 2009 in Cigar Reviews

Started with a slightly nutty flavor with a small kick of spice at the end of the short finish. Flavor changed to cocoa and toasty nuts, with a hint of fruit and oil on the lips. Medium body, light smoke. Good burn, good draw on the light side. Smooth but not dense texture. Please disregard the size specs in the video, this is the Imperator torpedo in 6×52.

Bryan, good review. I’ve been wanting to try this Alec Bradley for a while. Ater seeing the review i definitely will go buy a couple of these sticks. Keep up the good work!

I smoked a Churchill of this cigar, and was far more impressed by a robusto Prensado. The Prensado in Churchill is what won Cigar Aficionado’s #1 cigar in 2011, but I don’t always like a huge smoke and went for the Robusto, and it was amazing. Layers of flavor change. The Churchill Tempus I smoke was somewhat of a let down, and didn’t seem to have as distinct flavors as the Presado. Simply an amateur’s opinion here based on the two different sizes I smoked

Did you let it age in your humidor for a few months? That’s probably why you had a bad experience.

  • Brian

Great review looks like a tasty stick i will have to pick one up some time. Just wondering i know i have asked but whats the name of the colibri duel flame you use i like it a lot i was gonna see if i could find one.

  • http://www.cigarobsession.com admin

It’s a Colibri Firebird Viking. Just search for colibri dual flame, there are a couple up right now for under $20.

    • EddieJH

I have one, I prefer it much better than a torch. I got mine for 10 dollars at the smoke shop by my house. :)

  • Krieg

Even though you really liked this smoke, you still don’t think it’s worth $10? How does it compare to a Rocky Patel Decade?

  • http://www.cigarobsession.com admin

I would take the decade or even an olde world reserve over the AB any day, and both of those are cheaper, especially buying x-outs and secundos. The AB had more complexity, but the RPs had more flavor.

    • EddieJH

I agree when it comes to the Rocky Patel decade but I don’t know about the rest. Then again that is just my opinion. :)

Sounds like you finally found a stick that is to your liking….too bad they cost so much

  • Tim

I am getting 8 of this in a sample pack will write to you after i smoke a few

  • james Strickland

This stick is awful. One of the worst sticks i’ve ever smoked. The one I smoked was hot and dry to the point i could not get half way through it. Awful will never buy this one again.

    • EddieJH

You probably got a dud. It happens sometimes. I would recommend aging them for a few months. It helps.

  • Doug O

Love this sight. I happen to think the AB tempas centuria is the best out of this line. Brynn have tried them or do you have one lined up for review, if not I have one with your name on it. Don’t even try the quadrem.

    • http://www.cigarobsession.com Bryan Glynn

No I haven’t tried that yet! Thanks for watching!

  • http://andrewsmusiccorner.com Wilson

I had a 5 pack of the maduros in the Quadrum vitola. Has to be one of my favorite cigars. I just ordered a 10 pack of the regular Tempus (Quadrum) and I can’t wait to try it! They were on sale on CI for $40, so I jumped on it. I’m actually kinda curious about the AB seconds. They keep the blends a secret, but a little research and I’m sure you can find out what’s what. Have you had any of those? I bet that’s the best way to go when buying a box of these guys.

  • AJROSATI

I love the Tempus line. I had my first one the other day and after I was done smoking it I went back and bought a box of them. What’s your take on trying and selecting cheap but good cigars. Most of the ones I find myself buying are the ones in the 10 to 12 dollar range. I would love to fine an everyday smoke around 4 to 6 price range. And thoughts Bryan??

    • EddieJH

I recommend the Partags Black Label. One of my top ten favorites. :) You get a nice nutty flavor with it. :)

  • Anthony

Corona Cigar has these 2nd’s in toro for 50 bucks for a bundle of twenty =)

  • StickFigure

Easily one of the best smokes out there. It’s been in my top one or two for a few years now.

  • ryanmo45

Bryan if i had an extra prensado around I would send it to you for review. i would love to see your review on the 2011 coty!

    • http://www.cigarobsession.com Bryan Glynn

I have one waiting…and I’ve had them before…I won’t spoil the review but COTY is a joke. Advertiser OTY, maybe.

  • Brian

Hey Bryan, if youre still looking for a deal on this stick, I found a site that i personally have been using for a few years that you can get these for 125.95. Let me know if youre interested and ill send you the site. The only reason that im not posting it now is because i dont know how you feel about me posting links to cigar sites.

  • JohnBarleyCorn

Bryan have you tried the tempus maduro yet? Obviously it hasnt been reviewed just curious on your thoughts. I liked the tempus line but found a bargain on a box of the maddies and pulled the trigger. Let me know if your interested in reviewing one and I can send it your way.

  • stevenknisley

I’ve been wanting to try these for a while and after this review I really want to get a few of these

  • sh40218

It’s funny I only remember smoking this cigar once. But in my collection of cigar bands I’ve found 6 of them. I o my keep bands from sticks I smoke and use them for all kinds of projects. Maybe my subconscious likes the Tempus but I don’t know how I can have so many bands from a stick I didn’t like. Lol.

The Prensado in Robusto is my GoTo AB smoke. Next would be the MAXX or ACB in Nat. Just my 2ยข

  • curtpick

    Hey Bryan,

Just wanted to let you know . Because of your review I went out and bought some of these. What a wonderful stogie ! Love it ! A complete cigar through and through !! Thanks for your great reviews !

  • eric.hanson

This was one of the first wow sticks that I ever had, tons of complexity and transitions.

    • eric.hanson

You know I just had one o these in Quadrum last night and for some reason it didn’t seem quite as flavorful and complex as the other sizes I’ve had of the Tempus. Does anyone else think the same?

      • EddieJH

Same here. I tried one a couple of weeks ago and I know exactly what you mean.

    • EddieJH

If this amazed you then you should try a San Cristobal. Very good transitions. :)

  • EddieJH

I like this Cigar, I actually smoked one while drinking coffee. I really enjoyed it and it was a great way to enjoy the morning. :)

  • lazyboy

Smoking my first tempus today. I’m realizing I’m just not an Alec Bradley fan. Awhile back I bought a dozen or so Alec Bradley’s to try out the different sticks. They’ve sat for quiet some time before I started smoking them and I’m just not that into them. The tempus is ok it’s not bad at all, just not what I was expecting. One thing I’m noticing is that it’s very hard to hold a conversation while smoking this. It’s gone out on me 3 times. I really have to constantly puff on this to keep it going.

    • Fabbio

I agree. I know this was an old post but in the last few months I keep going back as I have a bunch of these in dif sizes and to be honest not all that impressed. I have had a spirit of Cuba natural that had better flavour. Maybe I am missing something.

  • Davexoxo

The tempus was possibly my biggest cigar disappointment, even had me wondering if something was changed about the blend. It was just bland and unimpressive. To each his own, some really like them.
